it doesn't really matter what the heart rate is, mine was high the first time (170) and mine's a boy! :] There's been too many times that heart rate doesn't correctly tell if it's a boy or girl, no one even pays attention to it anymore. Hope you're having a boy! :]

How far along were you when you heard the heartbeat?  The earlier you are, the faster it beats.  My daughter's first heart rate was 165 and my best friend's little girl's heart rate was 135.  I only have "girl" experiences...but those are two very different numbers!  I wouldn't give up hope yet for that boy!  :)

old wives tale is high foetal heart rate ie over 145 is a girl, under 145 is a boy. However medically shown to be pretty inaccurate. Out of all the old wives tales, heart rate, the "drano" test, the chinese calendar, all hit and miss. In the test cases done the only one that had 100 % sucess rate was the wedding ring dangled from a string, over the baby bump. Back and forwards is a girl, round in a circle is a boy. Personally used it once and was right! Don't know how it works, might be the different magnetic fields for male and female, how would you know. It's a bit of fun and easy to do so give it a go.

I haven't found any truth to that...we had a thread on here last year where people posted the heartrate and sex of their babies....and it was all over the place...

The great thing about being pregnant is testing out all the old wives tales!! It makes it more interesting, i did them all with both my children and some were right and some were wrong. However I would like to say no matter how much you think you want a boy-if you have a girl you'll realise how special she is. My first pregnancy I spent the whole time convinced baby was a boy and other people kept tellin me your carrying like its a boy, at the delivery when they told me she was a girl I was a little shell shocked-it took a couple of weeks to get my head around the idea. My daughter Lianne will be 5 next month and I can honestly say I am thrilled sshe turned out to be a girl-she's still gonna be around when my boys have left home (I have since had a little boy and am pregnant with another boy) She's gonna need me when they dont anymore and Its a special thing to have a girl. Dont get me wrong I love my boys just as much and they bring special qualities to my life but dont get too hung up on which sex you'd like, you cant choose and whatever baby is it will be your child and very quickly you'll realise you cant live without him/her.
