can anyone help me with this????!!!

my son will be 4 weeks old tomorrow.. and for the past week or so he has been having really bad diahrea.  using like 5 diapers an hr.. he was eating almost every hr.. he came down with really bad diaper rash and a fever.. so the doctors had me stop breastfeeding bc they thought i was passing something to him. They put him on pedialyte and then soy formula..and sure enough his BM started to slow down and he became much calmer and seemed happier..

well... since i started the formula i am having a hard time getting him to eat.. when he does its only about 2 1/2 ounces.. and he goes for long periods of time without eating.. when he used  to go every hr to 2 hrs...  is this normal?? is his body just adjusting to the formula??  I am so worried.. he doesnt have a fever.. he is still passing stools and urinating.. what is going on???

He may just be slowing down his intake.  There were times when my son did that and then he would hit a growth spurt and he would want to keep eating a ton again.  Formula fed babies can go longer then breastfed babies.  They tend to stay fuller longer.  As long as he's pooping and urinating he should be fine.  You want to feed on demand so if he's not hungry and he's still gaining weight then it is fine.

well we just went to the doctor this week so all of this is new for him,.. I was breastfeeding every 2 hrs sometimes sooner than that.. now.. we dont really have a schedule.. he seems to not eat as much on the formula... it just doesnt seem like he is getting enough to eat in his feedings.

When we first introduced formula to Hunter, he did go longer in between feeding
(like 4 hours and eating 2oz). I think its just because its all new to them. Give him awhile(week) and Im sure he will want to eat more and more offend. After about a week, week in an half he was up too 3-4oz every 3hours!

Baby's know when they are hungry.  Formula is a lot thicker then breastmilk.  At 4 weeks they are capable of going longer periods of time in between meals.  Trust me, he will wake when he wants to eat.  My son could go about 2-3 hours between meals on formula and by 6 weeks he would sleep through the night at a 5 hour stretch.  So I wouldn't worry about it too much.  Follow his lead.
