I am right now 6 weeks and one day pregnant I went for my first ultra sound last wednesday and at that time I was only five weeks and three days the technician said that she could see the sac and the fetal pole yet there was no heartbeat and that the baby had stopped developing a few days ago, she claimed that I was going to start miscarrying and would start bleeding yet I am still going strong and my pregnancy hormone level is at 1, 476 so could someone please please tell me if everything is alright or do I have something to worry about I have another ultrasound this coming thursday but I am very scared

You are very early in pregnancy, sometimes a baby's heartbeat can not be seen until later, I would try to stay calm and relax. Your next appointment will give you more answers, and if there was a sac and fetal pole then that's good. Just because you didn't see the heartbeat yet doesn't mean that you're going to have a m/c. Keep us posted and let us know what they say Thursday. And remember...try not to stress, and stay calm, it's the best thing you can do right now until you know more.

I completely agree w/ smjmekg.

Sometimes a heartbeat isnt seen until after the 6th week.  Also, this early on into a pregnancy it would be very difficult to say "baby stopped growing a few days ago" because pregnancy dating by ultrasound isnt that accurate.

Do you have any symptoms such as bleeding or severe cramping that might indicate something was amiss?

Oh my goodness! You will NOT see a heartbeat this early. I am always appalled by the way miscarriages are often misdiagnosed. She has nothing to base it on and should not have said a word.

Seeing the sac AND fetal pole at that time is actually very, very, very excellent.

It seems irresponsible for a technician to make this "diagnosis" without discussing it with a doctor or midwife first.  Can you call your doctor?

I am surprized the tech told you that, usually they just tell you what they see and let the doctor do all the diagnosis. I think you are still early and sometimes you don't even get to see the heartbeat till like 7 0r 8 wks. I know it's hard to play the waiting game, just try to stay calm and think postive.
