dehydration ER?

by rachie204, Jul 08, 2008 07:22PM
I was just wondering what you should do if you are dehydrated?  I'm 14 weeks today and have felt like I am probably dehydrated for the past 48 hours or so. I have drank as much water as I can which probably isn't very much, I have a really hard time drinking water.  Anyways I am so weak I can literally barley walk from one room to the next, my head is splitting and a little dizzy.  I havent been sick anymore but did throw up alot earlier.  Am I supposed to go see about getting an IV or just keep drinking fluids and hope that turns things around?

Yes, you need to be seen.  I would go to the ER, or at least the urgent care, based on how weak you are saying you are.   I am 13 weeks and I also have a hard time drinking fluids, I only drink maybe 2-3 glasses a day, but I dont feel dehydrated. If you are drinking as much fluid as you can and still feel the way you are describing, I think you should be seen immediatly. Better safe than sorry. Take care of yourself, and let us know how you are in the morning!

Ladies remember hydration doesnt only come from water.  Try things like popsicles, gatorade, fruit juices (juicy juice since it's 100%natural)...eat grapes oranges anything that has a liquid substance to it.

That doesnt mean ignore the signs of your body...if you cant keep anything down and Phernergan and Reglan (RX meds) arent working then most def go and have yourself checked.  But hydration is one of the easiest things to treat yourself, and it's free treatment! LOL

Sometimes dehydration can be more than just getting water in and you need an IV with potassium and other additives meant to balance and hydrate you...I'd be concerned enough to go to the ER if it were me and I was dizzy and weak.

I get dehydrated ALL the time...Pre Pregnancy and now..I just cant stand water so I have a hard time getting fluids in me. So whenever I start to feel dizzy and dehydrated I just force myself to drink anything that will help..water, juice, decaf iced tea, lemonade...or I'll eat an orange, apple...something really juicy.
But, getting dehydrated (especially in pregnancy) is very dangerous, so if you really feel horrible take yourself to the ER, they will give you an IV bag...but if you don't go there, just sit down in front of a fan and drink fluids. I totally know what your going through..I've never liked water...I always drank the drinks with aspartame in them and now I can't drink them too often so lemonade, V8 fruit juice and gatorade have become my friends. And if I have to drink water, I squeeze a ton of lemons in it!
Hope you feel better!

I don't know what you decided to do, but if there is ever any doubt, I would go to ER.  Dehydration during pregnancy can cause you to start having contractions so it is very important for you to stay well hydrated.  I hope you are feeling better.
