empty yolk sac and Hcg not doubling

by christi81, Jan 09, 2008 06:22PM
An update from yesterday. I have an empty yolk sac (im 8 weeks today) and my hcg was 16,000 on monday and 17,000 today. My numbers are not doubling. They are having me go back in for another u/s tomorrow. Has this ever happened to anyone else. I guess my hopes are not up anymore. If my yolk sac is still empty what will they do? I have not officially miscarried yet (no blood). What happens now? I just had a miscarriage in October, but I was only 6 weeks (no D&C). Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I am so sorry hun. I also had a miscarriage on Thanksgiving...my sac was also empty and measured 6 weeks.....I didn't bleed until I was 13 weeks pregnant. My levels were at 49,901 and than suddenly plumited as soon as I started to bleed. Usually by 8 weeks, you should be able to see something on the ultrasound so if they don't see anything they will probably tell you that you're in the process of having a miscarriage...they'll take blood again to see what your numbers are doing too.
I really hope everything turns out okay! I'll pray for you!

i think the d and c was the best thing for me. it didnt take long at all and they put stuff in my iv to make me sleep. i only bled for 2 days after. i went in at 5 that night and was out at 8. it only takes a few mins, but they wanna keep you to make sure your ok. i think it helps with the healing procces faster to, but thats my opinion

i also had a D&C on Dec. 10 due to a missed miscarriage (my body never rejected the embryos...there were 2).... I waited for 4 days to start miscarrying....had Hcg levels drawn to be sure (they dropped) and like cindy82 said, it was the best thing.....for me.  Everyone is different...although there are complications that can occur with a D&C, I felt better knowing that 'everything' was out and that my uterus was 'clean'.....vs. the stories I've read of natural miscarriages and bodies not expelling everything....(chance for infection...or a D&C later on)....I t was a huge relief for me actually......Again, you have to do what you are comfortable with.......Best of luck and I'm so very sorry for your loss.

I had a natural miscarriage and once I started bleeding I only bled for 5 days..it was just like having a period except you pass some clots and have some abdominal pain...I think the emotional pain is still terrible either way...I mean to bleed and know you're loosing your child is never an easy thing to deal with, whether you have surgery or not...I've heard natural miscarriages can last weeks...but mine was less than a week...Good Luck sweetie, I'll pray for you.
