a d&c is needed to clear everything out, even people passing clots need a d&c if there is still matter left behind. it should be fine

If you are bleeding, you might want to wait to try to pass it naturally..  I was the in the same situation as you ... I was 12 weeks and they only found a sac that measured 7 weeks 5 days.  I had the d&c for the same reasons you stated above but I never started bleeding in the wait for it ...

There are a lot of risks with d&c and though most  turn out fine, if you can pass it naturally, it might be worth the wait.  The natural miscarriage may be more painful and unpredictable..  But it has a faster recovery.  You are more fertile after a miscarriage and with a natural one in most cases you can start TTC right away.

With a d&c, they generally suggest you wait 1-3 cycles as your uterine lining is very thin and it can take a while for your HCG lvls to come down.  Plus there is always the risk of scarring and retained products....  It  took me 6 weeks to get my period back after my d&c (which is normal it can take up to 8 weeks).. and I waited 2 cycles before trying to conceive again.

My d&c turned out to be fine but I would have opted for the natural miscarriage if I would have any sign of bleeding.

You may want to call your doctor or the hospital and ask them.

I imagine they can still do it but they might recommended you wait it out if they think you will pass it naturally..

Glad to hear that everything passed on its own. I believe D&C's (my own personal opinion) are way too invasive!
