hcg levels not doubling

I just did ivf and my hcg levels are not rising how they are supposed to.  On day 12 my hcg level was 14.  On day 14 my hcg level was 28 which doubled.  They had me do another test today on day 16 and my level was only 34.  They are telling me my results are grim.  Either i will have a miscarriage or i have a eptopic pregnancy which will have to be terminated.  My heart is litteraly ripped in two.  I don't want to beleive what the doctors are telling me.  Is there hope this may get any better?  Is there anything i can do?  At some moments i am fine, then out of nowhere i cant help but to cry.  Any help would be appreciated.

Did they discuss taking levels on day 18 also?  I would want to see a couple of tests that weren't "doubling" before moving forward with anything.  I hope that everything turns out ok....
