hgc 6 on blood test

by laura1985, Apr 15, 2008 02:23PM
I had a blood test show up hcg 6 at the doctor yesterday. I've been getting positive results with a hpt since Saturday. Does this sound right? I though with an hcg that low that it wouldn't show up that early on a hpt? I go back on Thursday to see if they are rising. Does it sound like I am going to miscarry?

One question:  How late are you for your period?

I think anything over 5 shows up positive

It is meant to be that anything over 5 HCG is positive on a blood test.

This rule is compromised if you have recently-
given birth
had an abortion
or miscarried.

If your levels go down again (in your blood) then you have experienced an early pregnancy miscarriage. (very common)

Home pregnancy tests are usually supposed to register from 25 HCG. The most sensitive test (Pee stick) measures 10 HCG but if the test did, it would brag about that on the box or in the instructions...

However, I have recently been tested (pee stick and blood).
My home pregnancy test stated that it detected levels higher than 25 HCG.

On the morning of the first blood test, I tested positive (at home on pee stick) and my blood level was 9 HCG.

On the morning of my second test, I tested positive (at home on pee stick) and my blood level was 3 HCG.

I think that there are different types of HCG, (remember reading about it)
and the two tests were testing different types...

That is the only logical way that I can explain it!

As for miscarriage, get your blood tested again in 4-5 days. For a viable pregnancy, your HCG levels must double every 36 to 48 hours...

Atlantisea gave you a TON of wonderful information. I think that HCG is supposed to double every 48-72 hours, though.

Anyway, some urine pregnancy tests claim to detect a certain amount of HCG (such as 25 or 50, etc.) based on clinical trials. But they can usually detect numbers WAY lower than what they claim.

That being said, you should get your levels checked again in the next couple days and see if they rise.

thanks to all you ladies for your responses. i'm really nervous and i go back tomorrow morning to get another beta done to see if my levals are rising. keep me in your prayers! ive been having very very light brown spotting the last couple of days, but everyone is telling me that is normal since my period was due yesterday (the 15th). im just hoping and praying that this pregnancy lasts!

fyi, i am on 40 mgs of Lovenox once a day, due to a rare blood clotting disorder that i have.

I hate to give you bad news in the case it is not gonna be but I'd say test again with a home test and if you get a neg now I'd say it's only 6 cause it dropped but who knows good luck
