hyperemesis gravidarum

hyperemesis gravidarum

So I am 26 and pregnant with my second child. *9wks 3days). I went to the doctor today after losing 9lbs and not being able to keep anything down. (also sick with Virus and UTI) and was diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this and any suggestions, advice, what to expect, etc.....I was really sick with my first pregnancy but nothing compared to this. I feel like i have NO immune system and have been sick for two weeks now. I also cannot get rid of this low grade fever...it stays around 99.5-100 (even with Tylenol). Anything anyone has to offer will be of great appreciation! I am also very nervous that the baby is not ok? Go tomorrow for another ultrasound

I have it, and in my experience it's hell. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. I was diagnosed with it around 13 weeks when I went to the ER because I wasn't able to eat and hold anything down. Even water didn't want to stay down. Because mine was caught early I wasn't stuck in the hospital long. (I consider myself very lucky when I read others stories) But I still have lots of troubles eating, and am continuing to drop weight. Try to find something that sits well on your stomach. The hospital gave me a list I could try. Grains, breads, soups (sometimes) fruit, etc all work well. Even if you don't want food, you should try to force yourself to eat. Try to avoid large meals and eat 6 small meals. Typically it will resolve itself around 20 weeks, and some notice it gets worse around 15-17 weeks. Mine didn't, and I still have it. I expect to have it till birth. If you're having lots of troubles eating, talk to your doctor about getting a script for phenergan and/or zofran. It doesn't always work for everyone, but it did for me and is the only thing that kept me out of the hospital on IV fluids. It's difficult because it progresses differently in everyone and some might not have it as bad as others. Eat what you can, and try to keep yourself as hydrated as possible. You could PM me if you want to know anything else.

I was also diagnosed with hyperemesis gravidarum also so I know just how you feel =0( My Dr. prescribed me with Vitamin B6 and Unisom pills to be taken together to help but that only helped me out at night when I would fall asleep, I couldn't take them during the day as the Unisom would knock me out so then my Dr. prescribed me Zofran, which helped me a little. I am now 23 weeks almost 24 and I'm just now starting to stop puking, I still havn't gained any weight just lost 17lbs, but the Dr said that the baby is measuring perfect. My Dr. also suggested that I try wrist bands like sea bands, becasue it's suppose to help trigger something in your brain to make you from not puking, but I never tried them. Hope that you start to feel better soon!

I have had hyperemesis gravidarum wiht my first and 4th (current pregnancy) 2nd and 3rd were ok just regular morning sickness! with ym first I lost 35 lbs in 2 months and had to go in a couple of times for IV fluids, I did'nt really know anything about it though and did'nt get any help with it. i was sick the whole time i was pregnant with my 1st although I deliviered at 28 weeks (not related to the HG) and the baby was good size for how far along I was! this pregnancy (my 4th baby) I was really sick from about 6 or 7 weeks till a little over 20 I am currently 28 weeks and still throw up once in a while, but it's much better. I lost 25lbs with this one and my doctor tried to put me on zofran it works great, but most insurances won't cover it, mine would'nt so I had it like twice (it was awesome) and they put em on phenegran  and something else I can't remember the name right now they worked, but not as good and they made me tired, but so did the throwing up and nausea, so I took them anyway. I have stopped taking them as of a few weeks ago and I am doing fine not a very big appetite, but i have actually gained a few pounds now! the wrist bands do help some, but are not enough on there own usually! oh and mine did get worse at like 15 weeks and i had to go to the hospital for fluids, so sometimes it does get worse before it gets better! Good luck and hope it does'nt last to long for you!
