im going for the above on the 7th jan and im terrified. i know its something like a smear but i've never had a good smear yet. what can i expect, part of me hopes they find something that can be sorted to give us a reason why we've not conceived in over 30months. The other half hopes we're ok, i'm really hoping 2010 is our year
. What they do is insert a tube in through your cervix into your uterus, then they blow a balloon type gadget and release die throughout your tubes. What you feel is a lot of pressure
before the procedure because you will have some cramping afterward. It bothers but it isn't something that you can't handle. Good luck, I got pregnant about 9 months after my HSG.
specialist Oct 31st. after trying to conceive for 6 years. I had the procedure done November 2nd I believe Im not sure. This test is not proven to make anyone get pregnant. It is simply to see if you have any blockages
. I took 2 xtra strength Tylenol 1 hr before the procedure. It was a little bit uncomfortable once he inserted the tube in my cervix. kinda makes you want to urinate but It wasnt painful for me. after the test. The dr said everything was normal. Then my husband got checked and we were told we have to do invitro. December 15th I found out we are pregnant. I am now 7wks 2 days. Did it on our won. Dont get discouraged, God knows when he wants you to have one. And when the time comes you will see why it is the right time. Good luck.
I don't know anything about them, but just wanted to wish you all the best. I hope the procedure isn't too uncomfortable and that you get some answers....and your very long-awaited BFP!
Hi gillian please dont be scared, i had it done this time last year and im a proper wimp!! I wont lie it did bloody hurt but only when the dye went in and the pain only last a few seconds. That was in december last year and by jan i was pregnant. Just think of it as your way of getting closer to a beautiful baby. Right now your the only person i really wish to get pregnant. I hope 2010 is your year. Happy new year hun. x
Thanks for the honesty lol. I feel like i'm the only one left out of everyone i first started talking to on this site over 2 years ago that hasn't yet had a BFP. I am scared i'm not going to deny it, i don't do pain very well lol, all i can hope for is that this test is some sort of sign that 2010 will be my year and that even if the test comes back clear, it clears my insides for a fresh start at ttc again. Happy new year and i wish you all the best for 2010, i'll let you know my results when i get them back!!!
I had an HSG a few months ago and the procedure didn't hurt as much as after the procedure. I had really bad cramps for about a week afterwords but a lot of women don't have this problem but good luck!
I understand where you are coming from! We have been ttc for 2 1/2 years. We started trying with clomid & trigger shots, then decided to take a little time off. We are waiting to start back on any medicines until after I have an HSG - which will probably be February.
I am nervous about it too - my RE told me it would be uncomfortable and I would cramp - but he said to take a few motrin before and I should be just fine. He is usually right on with what he says - so I am hoping this is the same!
Good luck to you - may we both have a "productive" 2010!
I had on HSG in October. My doctor said it wouldn't hurt, "only pressure" but it did hurt so that scared me a lot when the pain started. If I had known it would hurt, I would have been prepared but the whole "why is it hurting? what's wrong? why is it hurting?" thing is what made it bad for me.
Mine did hurt. The dye didn't go through at first because there was some resistance and to be honest, it felt a little like tearing. Then after some time, the dye did go through and it stopped hurting. The pain wasn't terrible, I'd say for me it felt like some medium labor pains. It was all over in about 5-7 minutes so very bearable.
Obviously they are looking for blocked tubes, fibroids, deformed structures, etc. But the theory is that, even if they don't find anything wrong, the procedure might clear out some adhesions or debris that may have been impeding pregnancy. I think my doc said there was a 20-30% higher chance of conceiving within the three months following an HSG. We're in our third month following my HSG & just got a BFP... so maybe it helped us along after 12mos ttc!
I've also heard folks say that normal HSGs that are painful are likely to be the ones where some light adhesions/debris get cleared out... so if it does hurt, take comfort in that thought while you're trying to get thru the 5-10 minutes it will take. Also realize this might be some light training for actual labor!
thanx again guys, congrats babybiff on your bfp. i'm gonnae tell the doc if i cry im fine but uf theres a problem i'll raise my hand i don't take pain very well.
I'll let you all know how my results go
