pregnancy and tegretol

Hello all... first off, i had to re-post to add the tags...
My wife and I are considering having a baby. She has epilepsy and takes tegretol for it. She has been seizure-free for over 4 years now!
My #1 concern in this scenario, is having a healthy child. I know that with every pregnancy there are risks. I've read about how tegretol CAN cause birth defects, not always, and that chances are low. Don't worry, before we TTC, we will meet with both her doctors (Neuro and Gyno). My concern is that the Neurologist will say "Stay on the meds" while the GYNO will say "Get off the meds for the baby."
Has anyone here delivered or know of someone who has delivered a healthy baby while on tegretol? Also, has anyone known of any defects caused to a child because of tegretol and what they were?
I'm just very concerned for my wife and our possible child and looking for some experienced words and some possible comfort.
