preparing for labor

by mamaofonetrying42, Jun 23, 2008 11:25AM

So as I hit 35weeks, this week. I’m just wondering if there is anything I can do to get myself (body) ready.  I REALLY want to go into labor on my own, and have a good feeling that this time it will happen, but you just don’t know. So is there anything that I can do, to help get things going? Like: walking more, having more sex (blah), drinking or eating anything? I don’t want to put myself into labor early, but I would like to move things along, and go on my own…..

Second ? Is. Will, a dr. induce you early if the size of the baby is on the larger side?? I’m sure it depends on the dr. as well, right?

Your doc can strip your membrane to see if it works.   It's not really inducing but encouraging your cervix to rippen.  You can mention it to the doc next time you see him?

I agree with the membrane stripping...my doc did that for me with my last one at exactly 38 weeks....4 days later my son was born...no drug intervention whatsoever.  I had the membranes stripped on thursday and walked myself silly all weekend.  Nipple stimulation is supposed to help kick start things as well.  Bouncing on a birthing ball.  Honestly I'm not an advocate of taking anything herbal to start labor.  Especially if it's something you've never taken before...too much risk of a reaction that can cause complications.

Also if you are afraid baby will be too big...talk to you doc...many will induce earlier nowadays.

I had my membranes stripped at 38 weeks and I had my daughter 3 days later.  I also walked the night before for an hour.  I knew something was gonna happen soon because I had to stop walking because I started to feel pressure and I started to wobble.

Thanks,

If I started walking now will that help at all???

Im not afraid baby will be too big, I just wanted to know if dr.'s worrie about it and if they would induce because of it? I really dont want to be. But at my last u/s baby was 5p2oz at 33weeks, i go back the 7th , i'll be 36w +days and if baby is alot bigger....you know, how will my dr. feel about??
