rise, drop and rise HCG levels--ectopic ruled out

by blueyesq, Sep 02, 2008 04:11PM
The first day of my last period was July 13. Because of three prior miscarriages, my doctors started to monitor this pregnancy early.  Also, because of prior miscarriages and tests I underwent for possible infertility issues I learned that I produced three eggs in July.  The doctor told me that the egg on my left ovary was dominant and the two eggs on my right ovary were smaller. My husband and I tracked ovulation.  An ovulation stick tested positive on day 15 of my cycle but other indicators suggested a possible ovulation on day 19.  I did not continue to test for ovulation after receiving a positive result on day 15.  I received a positive home pregnancy test on day 31 of my cycle (after receiving two negative results on day 22 of my cycle and on day 28 of my cycle).  On August 11 my HCG level was 183 and my progesterone level was 43. On August 14 my HCG level was 343 and my progesterone level was 32.35. Everyone was cautiously optimistic despite the drop in the progesterone. Unfortunately, on August 18 my HCG level dropped to 150 and the doctor advised me that a miscarriage was imminent. Despite the diagnosis, I did not start to spot or bleed. I did experience mild cramping. On August 25 my HCG level rose 1500 and the doctor was concerned my pregnancy was ectopic. I went for an ultrasound on August 26. The doctor found an empty sac. I went back for a second ultrasound on August 28. The sac was  visible, slightly larger but still empty. The doctor tested my hcg and progesterone levels. They were 3654 and 17 respectively. How odd? They are now rising. I am going for an ultrasound tomorrow. I still have not started to spot or bleed. Any answers????   Possible vanishing twin?
