I believe that around 5 weeks the baby's heart has just started to beat and it starts slowly. It gets up to a faster speed in another week or two. A lot of women bleed in early pregnancy as well. Miscarriage can happen no matter how far along you are but the chances drop dramatically once you hit the second trimester(12 weeks).  Your cervix being closed is a good sign. I miscarried at 8 weeks, but I spotted for about 2 weeks. I went and had an ultrasound and they said everything was fine, even saw the heartbeat. Unfortunately I miscarried 2 days later. Every week that goes by you have a better chance of not miscarrying. So hope for the best and don't do anything if you don't have to! Good luck hun! Hope everything works out!

After 2 miscarriages that was all I studied when I got pregnant this time.  My specialist said once you have a heartbeat and a moving baby your risk to miscarry is around 5%.  Really there is no time they can tell you that you won't miscarry.  Unfortunately, if it's meant to be it will happen.  Like Jame0223, my last pregnancy ended at 6w5d after we saw our baby with a heartbeat at 6w2d and the doctor told us everything was fine.  I do know the heartbeat starts out slow and then gets really fast and then regulates itself.  Even though we saw a heartbeat at 5w5d, I didn't get to hear it until I went back to my OB at 10w and it was 167 and now at 17w it's staying in the 140s.  Just take it easy and stick to your bed rest.

over here (england) ive only heard the HB once and they didnnt even tell me what it was and that was only at 16weeks, for some reason they dont seem to go on HB rates i dont know why, i wouldnt let it worry you though, your baby has only just started with the HB, it willsoon pick up.

From weeks 5-10 of my pregnancy I bled worse then a period, bright red, clots, the whole shabang. At 6 weeks I received an ultrasound and the heartbeat was only 95. Doctors told me that it was fine since when the heart usually starts beating it is slower then the average 120-160. Strangely enough by like 10 weeks it will probably be higher then the 160 mark. Anytime you bleed during pregnancy they give it a 50-50 chance. I bled and now I have a healthy (almost) one year old. Please keep faith.
