With my daughter I had my membranes stripped on my due date and I was 4cm...I still didn't go into labor until two days later and that was because the docs induced me. I had a little bit of bloody show and small twinges after the stripping. Good luck!!

My OB did this to me for two weeks in a row at my appointments....and nothing. I bled a little bit, but did not go into labor. It's definitely uncomfortable getting it done! It didn't work for me, but maybe it will for you :) Good luck!

Stripping the membranes is just separating the bag of waters from the cervix. It cannot put you into labor, but is done to help speed the process along. For some women it doesn't do a thing and for others it helps push them into labor. It is supposed to stimulate a hormone that will cause you to have contractions.

So going into labor is probably how you know it has worked. Looking at this information (I obtained it from www.childbirth.org) I realize now that my doctor did that without telling me. I had my daughter the next day after a pelvic exam that left me in such pain and contractions began just hours later. I could tell she was doing something "down there" but she never told me if she had done anything. Apparently, you don't have to be told or give consent! LOL!
