very high hcg levels

I went to the doctor about three times in the past 2 weeks.  The Nurse Practioner was the one who began all the ultrasounds.  She would never tell me anything.  she would not let me know how far I am ; how the baby is growing; or if she saw a heartbeat (although i figured i am probably too early to find one).  She said I had to come back Thursday to see the actual doctor.  They have done 2 hcg hormone test on me.  When he came into my room he first introduced hisself and then told me my pregnancy is not viable.  and the went on to explain my baby does not have a heartbeat cause the nurse could not detect it on the monitor.  They never tried doppler, but again i feel i am too early. He said my hcg levels are very high and i am going to misscarry my baby so i need a D & C done immediately. I told him if i misscarry it will happen on its on.  He kept trying to force me to get one.  He never told me my hcg level numbers or anything.  What would anyone suggest?  I am going to the hospital today to find out more (a different one than i went to yesterday).  Is this usually normal for a doctor to react like this and should i truly be concerned?

I would have a little concern but the dr needs to explain to you why they think that the pregnancy is not viable, whether the levels aren't doubling or the baby is at a size/age where there should be a heartbeat and there isn't. I would definitely get more answers before agreeing to the D&C

Okay, usually the ultrasound techs are very personable unless there is something wrong. But you said that you only had one u/s. Usually they do at least two. How far along do you think you are? If they did 2 HCG tests then they should be able to tell if your numbers are doubling or not. I am with you on the second opinion make sure the new doc knows that you need to know these things.

I would definetly find a different doctor, I cant stand doctors that are impersonable, I ask a million questions when they are doing ultrasounds and they have answered pretty much all of them, I can understand if something is wrong them not saying anything but someone should tell you something you have a right to know.

It sounds like you might have a molar pregnancy. In a molar pregnancy your Hcg levels are very high, tissue develops but it isn't a fetus. It's more like abnormal, cancer tissue. It is pretty bad that your doctor won't explain it better if this is what you have. The reason he wants you to have a D&C (if it really is a molar pregnancy) is because if the tissue becomes invasive you could end up needing chemo and cancer treatments. I would demand more information from your doctor though, because molar pregnancy isn't something to take lightly. Hope eveything works out for you!

It is me again.  I have had 4 ultrasounds.  The first one I had the tech told me everything was great no worries.  Then she sent me to this doctor.  his nurse did 2 ultrasounds on me and would not explain anything other than here is your gestational sac, here is your yolk sac, here is your baby come back in a week...so on so forth. then i finally saw the doctor and he said my levels had tripled since 2 weeks ago in hcg hormones...he said they were to high...(they still haven't said how far along i am at this point so i do not know)....also they haven't told me my numbers on anything or anything..he said high levels of hcg means miscarriage and he needed the D & C done then.  I don't trust him at all because i have had a miscarriage and levels of hcg lowered not raised...

do you have any idea at all how far along you are?when was your last period? I would wait a few more weeks to see what was going on. I wouldn't agree to a d&c until they are 100% sure there is no way there is a baby

That totally does not sound right to me!  I would def get another opinion.  You're right.  Normally when a m/c is occuring, levels drop and not rise.  And if they are rising, it is normally a slow rise.  But even then, some of those women with slow rising HCG go on to have healthy babies.  

You could even go to a pregnancy help clinic and they could do an u/s for free.  At least the one close to my house does.  I would see if you can find one near you.  But def. get a 2nd opinion.  Heck, get a 3rd if you have to!!

I went to a pregnancy health clinic first and she told me everything seemed great no worries and to go see such and such doctor for prenatal care.  I have been seeing his nurse for the past 3 weeks.  At the pregnancy center 3 weeks and 1 day ago she told me I was 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant and the next day when i went to the doctor she said i wasn't quite 4 weeks pregnant from the way it looked...the first person's ultrasound calculated everything, but the second seems to not calculate and they try to figure it out theirselves. I am going to the hospital today to make sure everything is ok because i can't wait until june 11 to roll around for another doctor to see me.

They did see the baby and showed the baby to me..they just don't spot a pulse rate on the ultra sound.  They havent' tried to hear a heart beat yet.  It may just be too early every baby i know is going to be different because everybody's body is different.  I just hope all works out..Please pray for me everyone I am headed to the hospital in an hour or so to get all checked out and will post a new one up here to inform you guys as to what was told to me.  Thank you for your answers they have all been very helpful.

Don't worry in the first 3 months my U/S was a whole week off and then a little. They said I was due Sept 21 when I KNOW i'm due sep 13.

WE didn't get a hb til 5w6d but the dr said it was VERY, VERY early and he was suprised.

My hcg levels went up about every 48-72hrs..exactly how they're supposed to.

So be assured, some women don't get a heartbeat til about 8-9weeks pregnant. and ALWAYS get a 2nd or even a 3rd opinion because dr.'s don't know anything and they're quick to try and get a woman to have a D&C.

I've seen abunch of cases where a woman was told that, didn't do it, and went back a week or so later to find out in fact she had a healthy baby. OR got a u/s done before the procedure and found out they're kid had a heartbeat!

imagine how many women have had D&C's and they're babie's were alive and they never knew because of stupid doctors!

That is how I feel and now I feel a whole lot more positive thanks to you.  I had a friend who decided with this same doctor to do a d and c and when they took the baby out it had a small heart beat and then lost it as soon as it came out.  I feel God will take care of my baby no matter what so I am going to wait to miscarry if I do.  I am about to go to a really incredible hospital here for pregnant women who has high technology and an excellent staff.  I am excited and hope to see or hear a heart beat or even see how far I am.  Every time they have done an ultra sound on me I have noticed changes;  my gestational sac is larger my baby looks like a larger circle now or a kidney bean which ever where as 3 weeks ago my baby looked like a baby dot from far away and up close.  my yolk sak is a little bit more mature as well.  It is hard to believe that some doctors out there care more about their money than their patients; but I have seen alot of them out there.  So now I am going june 11 to see a much better and very popular doctor and a great staff.  I will fill you in as to how tonight goes.

GO GET ANOTHER OPINON!!!!    I had 4 ultrasounds, 4!    My HCG levels were really high and a lot higher than average for where I am in my pregnancy.  At all 4 ultrasounds the doctor said no heartbeat, it is not looking good. I went to see a different doctor, and poof, a healthy baby with a heatbeat.


I am glad that you have an appointment with another doctor.  It is not right that they wont even tell you the hcg levels...

I just left the hospital and came home.  They were very wonderful there.  They did an ultrasound and found out that my gestational sac is 7 weeks but my baby is alot less than that.  My baby has no heart beat whatsoever.  They did the doppler and stethoscope on me and nothing.  He said my pregnancy is abnormal and my hcg levels are actually less than what 7 weeks should be.  My baby stopped growing.  They are going to let me try to pass it this weekend and go to my new doctor on Tuesday. If I do not pass it they do have to go in and do an emergency D & C because my body is beginning to get some of the bacteria from it.  They are going to give me my rhogam shot for my rh negative factor as well.  I had 100.7 temperature as well and my blood pressure was pretty high so they are afraid i am developing some of the infection now.  So I guess I will not become a mommy after all.  Thank you everyone for all your help and advice with this and keeping me as positive and you could.  I did feel better finding out more too.

Rashley32~ I am very sorry for your loss, and hopefully there won't be any infection. Keep an eye on your temperature, and if it rises to more than 103 in the next 48hr's make sure to go back to the doctor ASAP. it can mean Sepsis, which is a blood infection and can get deadly. (not always, but sometimes if it's bad enough).

And you will have another chance at a baby, so I'm sorry for the hurt your going thru right now, and hopefully they'll ok you to TTC soon.

Did they say what size the baby measures?
because sometimes it can be off, or the baby can measure a little behind yet be normal... I'm sorry they havent found the heart beat, and am hoping that maybe it's just that the baby is a little behind what they're saying it is. Plz. keep me updated.

aw honey, i am so sorry.....please keep us updated as things progress.....maybe there is still hope, and you're hormones and temp are from something else.....not to give you false hope, but maybe you're dr will see something different.....the others are right, sometimes a baby can measure smaller than what would coerce with the conception, and maybe that is the issue......sometimes, babies don't measure a heartbeat til up to 10 weeks+.....again, please keep us updated, and i'm very sorry you're going through this.....

i know i went to a great hospital and all.  I have still been doing more research on here and decided to stay strong.  I have come to the realization there are many cases where there is a mis diagnosis of miscarriage and many women have done a D & C and risked never being able to get pregnant again or come to find out their baby was healthy.  Who knows maybe my baby is going to be a premie.  I don't know just hope i suppose.  I have decided to opt out of the D & C and just let God and nature take its course.  A doctor in my opinion can not force me to do something I do not wish to do.  If I am going to lose my baby then I will eventually miscarry.  I have decided I am going to hope for the best but expect the worse at this point so I can remain strong.  When or if my baby makes it I have a huge story to tell.

I went to a different doctor today..dates have been off.....baby is 6 weeks and 6 days.  no heart beat but he feels it is too soon for that.  he said as long as i am not hurting nor bleeding he isn't worried at all.  He is still going to be on high percautions but he feels my baby is healthy by the way it is growing.  he checked hcg levels today and will thursday. he said if the other doctor said they were high then that is a great sign.   I will keep you informed.

i did indeed quit seeing the other doctor.  He was too caught up in wanting to do that d & c on me.  I don't think so..  I truly feel in nature taking course.  rather it is dead or alive i still want to see it cause it is still my baby.  This new doctor is very good.  I go and see him again friday for another ultrasound which i should be at 7 weeks at that point.  He feels nature should take course as well so i feel so much better,

Here is a final update.  First thank you everyone for helping me through this.  my blood work tues was 18000.  he said he should have had a heartbeat at that number.  Yesterday it was 15000.  I am indeed going to miscarry my baby.. I had a miss miscarry.  We are going to try to let it leave naturally in two weeks if it hasn't we will do the pill.  I still have my hope and my faith for my next try in a year or more and hope to get answers soon as to why i miscarry and just pray it doesn't happen again.  If it does I will adopt someday and give a child who needs a good home what they deserve to have in life.  YOu have all been very helpful and I do appreciate everyone who has answered my question or tried to.  YOu did help me and my husband to be keep our faith and our hearts open.
