Hi I also took vicodin in my early pregnancy (15-18 weeks) and I had no complications from it. I made sure to call and ask my doc if it was ok to take and she said that there should be no problems (I had a oral procedure done and it was prescribed to me) My son was born healthy with no complications. It sounds like (from your previous premie) that you are just apt to have your children early. I really don't think it has anything to do with the vicodin or quitting it cold turkey, but you really should talk to your doctor about it if it is a concern. Take it easy and keep that baby in your belly as long as you can :) Let me know how you get along :)
I'm currently 13 weeks and started vicoden a couple days ago for back pain. My dr's all agree it's relatively safe as long as Im not on high doses all the time.
With TJ i was on vicoden for 5 months (the last 5 mo.) of my pregnancy and he was fine. :) no withdrawal and no birth defects.
i know many doctors that say its ok. the thing is do the benefits out weigh the risks. when my friend was pregnant she went through a rough pregnancy and i mean rough. her OB prescribed her vicodin at one point, tylenol with codeine at another point and then ambien and zanax towards the end when she could not sleep and was having paic atatcks cause her sister was diagnosed with a deadly cancer. i was shocked at all this but he prescribed it, of course not all at once.
i know that when i had pregnancy carpel tunnel, my doctor stated that we might have to think about a trong pain med but i somehow got through the pain although it was not easy.
