5 week ultrasound no pole

So I was having some cramps and went to the emergency room because it scared me. They ran a few tests and did an ultrasound and found a sack however, the doctor said she did not see a "pole". I'm freaking out, she continued to say that there is a possibility of the fetus not actually being in the sack which (if it is the case) will result in a miscarriage. I have an appointment with my doctor and she told me not to worry about anything. I've had three miscarriages before no children, and I'm concerned and absolutely terrified. Has anyone had an experience like this before? Any information will help. Thank you.

Thank you all, you're comments and advice are very much appreciated. I went in for my ultrasound and the fetal pole, yolk sac, and heartbeat were all present. Yay! 6 weeks today.

Hi, at 6 weeks i had red bleeding then at 7 weeks I had a sac but no embryo or heartbeat... Doc thought it was a blighted ovum and got me to wait a few more days for another scan. I spent those days worrying and crying! 4 days later there was a 9mm embryo and a heartbeat!!! Don't worry yourself sick like I did, I was convinced i'd miscarry (I had a m/c last year very early in pregnancy). I was wrong... I'm now 8½ weeks. You're only 5 weeks which is still really early... try not to worry.

5 weeks is the absolute soonest you can see a sac. I know because I had an emergency scan due to rupturing cysts after IVF. I also know with a history of loss it's almost impossible to relax and wait till the next scan. It won't do you or the baby any good to stress. Have faith that everything will work out well at your next scan. Make sure to drink at least 64oz of water per day and rest. Please let us know how your next scan goes. Best wishes and congrats on your pregnancy.

I know it's easier said than done especially with your past, but try to stay calm and positive. This happened with me in my last pregnancy. It took me 3 trips to the doctors and finally at 8 weeks we seen that little heart flickering. So this does happen, most of the time a pole isn't detected until 7/8 weeks. Good luck!
