Bleeding after childbirth

I have heard that it is normal to bleed for several weeks after giving birth and that heavy bleeding is not unusual.

I did not experience any bleeding at all.  Would this also be considered normal?  I was discharged from the hospital with no exam from the doctor (he didn't even come into the room, just stood in the door and asked me how I was doing.)  And then at my six-week appointment my ob didn't even bring up the subject.

Seven months later I started experiencing long, painful periods which were eventually attributed to endometriosis and endometrial hyperplasia.  I had no problems with either of these before.

That is strange that you didnt bleed at all. I think the shortest ive bled after 4 deliveries was 2-3 weeks. The first period following baby 3 however never stopped and after about a month of bleeding I had to take a minipill because somehow my hormones were thrown off. It seemed to fix the problem, but like you, I'd never had any issues before.
