Car Sickness

I'm 5 weeks pregnant. My first pregnancy. I'm going on a road trip and I got horrible motion sickness when I wasn't pregnant and I would just take over the counter motion sickness pills, buy now that I'm pregnant I don't know what to do. Can I still take the over the counter medicine or is there something else I can take?

I was at the OB today as he wanted to check on baby xyz  before I headed from my home town 8 hours away for 6 days of camping,  then back home for 48 hours and then 8+ hours in the opposite direction for more camping. I asked for Zofran as I am familiar with it due to the beginning of my pregnancy,  I am 14 week + 6 days now, and I was unsuccessful in getting it. (I do have 5 or 6 left from my prescription). My OB said that there is a line between motion sickness and "morning sickness". Motion sickness is an in balanced in your ears.  He told me that Zofran would not help with that. He suggested taking either Dramamine® or Bonine®, over-the-counter medications sold specifically for motion sickness and they are FDA category B, indicating that they are probably safe in pregnancy. He said there is always mixed feelings in different doctors, about them and that I definitely should Not take the scopolamine patch as it may be "safe" in pregnancy but there is less known about it and it falls into category C.

I would definitely put a call into your OB because he/she might feel differently as everyone has their own opinion :)

If you go to Cvs or Walgreens they have Bonine , it's safe to use while pregnant and works great. I use it everytime I fly / long car rides. Also zofran works very well

If it's possible to go to the doctor before your trip, I suggest maybe getting some Zofran. It's safe to take during pregnancy and is like a miracle pill.

My doctor told me that stemetil (anti nausea drug) is quite safe to take. Take it half an hour before traveling. I survived on it while traveling in India, and their roads are really bumpy...
