Gotcha. The crazy thing is I have been high risk my entire pregnancy now I'm 38weeks & it seems like my baby doesn't want to come.

Ok, so I probably have a little time b4 anything happens. This is my 2nd, but everything has been completely different than with my 1st. My 1st they never checked for dilation and effacement until I was in actual labor.

Ur dialated to almost the size of a nickel when fully dialeted thats the size of the top of a solo disposable cup being at 80% that should mean u will dilate sooner rather than later but theres no set schedule for when that kind of thing happens lots of things can change when it happens like position of baby and activity that u do. I hope that helps some u ready for ur lil one?

Does a "shortened" cervix mean the same as a high % effaced? :/ this stuff confuses me too....

Effacement is the thinning of the cervix and dialating is opening... If this is your first usually you almost fully efface before you really start dialating. If you have other pregnancies after usually they happen simultaneously
