Family Issues

I feel as though my family is not as happy or excited as I am and I have to hide my happiness about being pregnant... Me and my husband are estatic and can't wait, we try and share our joy with our family members and it almost sounds like they're irritated when they hear about it. It's exhausting trying to keep up with everyone else's happiness and to put the cherry on the cake me and my husband have to stay with my mother due to financial issues so it's not like we can escape the drama and awkwardness and go to our own place... I am not trying to lose my positive energy by being stressed out so any advice as to how to deal with this situation would be great.

It's hurtful when family are not excited as we are. Even if it's just one person. My entire family is happy for us.  But my sister on the other hand. As soon as I told her and my mom her first reaction what why your not even a good mother your a bad mother. Couldn't believe she said that I thought she would have been happy about it. It was quite a shock she also said   You don't do this you don't do that. Am like I am a great mother she wouldn't be telling me every day that I am her best friend or she loves me so much. She hugs me i even asked our other sister whom is a social worker the honest truth she said you are the best mother for her you don't drink you don't do drugs you finished college your doing the best that you can.  Anyway we are all doing the best we can and you are all awesome mothers.

I so agree with jamie2464. I know it's hard when you are going through financial difficulties and living under someone else roof. They may not be unhappy for your new addition to the family, but just wish it was under better circumstances that's all. Don't just assume the worst and become defensive. Look at it from a different perspective.  They care enough to let 2 grown adults you and your husband share their home and space. Just give them some time. Best of luck to you and your family...take care.

I was there before. We ended up staying with my mom for 6mths until our place was ready. I wasn't hiding it from my mom but her husband had me feeling uncomfortable. Because I know how much he doesn't like babies so I would walk past him with my purse in front of my belly. He also convinced my Mon to bring me to an abortion clinic with my first born but Big mama ripped him a new one when she learned about it: which is the reason I'm always uncomfortable around him.

As for you, stay out of the houses much as possible or in your room away from the negativity. It's something they have to deal with liking it or not. You don't have to hide your joy. You can't ask anyone to be happy for you or expect them to meet your happiness and they don't have the right to drain you out of yours.

You could ask them what the problem is but that may open a can of worms and we don't need that for the baby. Hope you all get situated soon.

I live with my mother and grandmother and at first my grandmother's response to my saying I was pregnant was "Y u wanna go ruin your life for".. Being that I'm 24, been to college, been with my SO for 5yrs, etc.... I didn't understand her issue.. But anyway that day I cursed her out for that response.. And throughout my entire pregnancy, up until like 30 something wks she wouldn't even mention anything about the baby.. It was very hard to be happy about or talk about my happiness around her.. Well now the baby is here and she can't get enough of her.. She adore's her and her presence adds so much joy in my household now... Hopefully your people will stop giving you a hard time as well.. But mostly, just enjoy your happiness now... You'll never get this experience back so enjoy enjoy enjoy.. Don't mind anyone!!! Peace and blessings  :-)
