Genetic Testing

I just got a call from my doctor saying that I'm a carrier of Fragile X and I'm not sure how I should feel, but I'm scared and i just been crying all day.. I did some research on Fragile X and it's a intellectual syndrome that affects the baby development.. has anyone been a carrier and what are the chances that it will affect your baby.

Your genetic counselor should have explained the chances to you. Call them back and make them explain everything to you. They should not have left you worried like that.

I got tested for it but I am not a carrier. The reason I was tested was because my 5 year old son has a severe mixed receptive-expressive language disorder and low muscle tone. There's nothing I did to make him that way and as far as genetic testing goes everything came back normal. I  guess what I'm trying to say is that it doesn't matter. All your tests can come back with bad results and your child could come out perfectly fine. My son was born exactly 40 weeks at 7lbs. 4 oz. No complications during my pregnancy. You just never know and there's nothing you can do either way so don't worry yourself. I know it's hard because I've been there. If something does happen then there's so much help out there that can help children function. My son is living proof.
