Gestational Diabetes...

I just found out I have gestational diabetes and I am freaking out....I'm only 17w2d and I feel like the worst mtb on the planet.  Generally I don't eat amazingly, but I THOUGHT I was doing pretty well, note I was not diabetic prior to conception. Now my kitchen looks like a death trap for my baby boy and I'm terrified anything I eat is poison for him. I need a list of foods that are okay to have but so much that I'm finding is the food I was already eating... I'm so confused, stressed and scared, idk what to do...

I found out i have gd at the begining and did the blood test again at 28weeks. I got to see a dieticien and the diet is not so hard. Exercise such as walking helps a lot. Now at 33weeks  bubs is perfectly healthy and to note i have only reduce my sugar intake so far.

i think everyone  has covered the basics protien, veggies and limit sugars which includes  fruit (apples and dark berries are okay cuz they have tones of fiber which helps to stabilize  blood sugar) and hopefully  you'll  be in touch  with a dietitian soon  to work on a meal plan. And i just wanted to let you know you have done nothing wrong. yes there are risks factors that can make you more likely  to develop  GD but the fact is pregnancy  is naturally a diabetic  state. your placenta produces hormones that interfere  with your insulin  production  on purpose  because  the baby does need you to have alittle  extra sugar  in your blood for them. most women pancreas can keep up with the demand and produce the extra insulin  needed and some dont. Just think of it this way you probably  have an amazingly  strong and nourishing placenta that is working super hard to insure your little  one gets everything  it needs ;) i blamed myself  too when first diagnosed but really its just the luck of the draw. good luck mama!

I felt the same I found out at 30 weeks. I'm usually a very healthy eater so I felt even worse.  However I found out with balanced meals I can maintain my sugar levels and I have no need for insulin. I usually take a 10 min walk after all three meals and have a light snack in between. And drink tons of water.  There are a few apps for gestatio AL diebetes that can help with diet.  Just remember to.portiom control and skip the sweets till baby is born

I found out when I was 21 weeks. When I was about 31 weeks I was put on insulin. I felt like a fail too but the fact of the matter is, the insulin does make me feel better.

Cut or reduce carbs. Go for a little walk everyday if you can, twice if possible. Protein protein protein is all I can say. I tried my hardest to go carb free but I have 4 other kids and it just became impossible for me to eat differently  than the other 5 people in my house. I'm 35 weeks now, and at this point I'm not eating too much differently than I did pre pregnancy. I just eat half as much of the carb and twice as much of the protein. Tragically, I'm  not really a veggie person but I understand meats and veggies are limitless. Also, what doesn't effect your blood sugar one day can and sometimes will spike it the next time you eat it. Drink more water even if you think you're  already drinking enough drink more. Depending on your routine, stop eating at a certain time every night. That will help regulate your fasting number in the morning. GD fits everyone differently and it really is about finding what works for you. Brace yourself because finding out that early is going to make your pregnancy feel like an eternity! Feel free to PM me if you wanna chat some more.

Don't worry so much it will only stress you out. Try to eat red meat and raw (whole) almonds for protein. Watch your sugar and carb intake, drink plenty of water and you should be okay.
