Getting a mid wife

How do you feel about a mid wife? This is my first pregnancy and I'm not sure if I should put that pressure on myself on the 1st go round...???

I've had 3 home births all with the assistance of a licensed midwife. They were beautiful, empowering, wonderful experiences! Add long as you are not high risk it's a great option!

I love my dr. But it is true they only come in when it is time to catch the baby. I would love a midwife but there are not many good ones in my area

Wish I had gone for a midwife instead of doctors but since I have health issues I thought a doctor was a more safe option the first time round just in case.

Also, I knew from the get go that I wanted a CNM (certified nurse midwife) and have been extremely happy with the care I've received thus far.  She actually works under an OBGYN who I have great respect for.  Being comfortable with me providers team makes me feel ready and prepared for the big day (only 20 more days till baby boy is due)

I'm a huge advocate if midwives but really be sure to do your homework when choosing one.  Not all midwives are certified.  You can always look up their license and history online.  During nursing school in my l&d stint, there were alot of mothers and babies who were out at risk because of poor care from their midwife.  But truthfully the same can be said for obgyns.  It never hurts to be informed about whose hands you are putting yourself in.  Benefits of having a midwife include more personalized care, more time with provider during prenatal care and l&d, generally they tend to offer more non medical interventions if this is what mom wants.  Hope this helps :)

I had a midwife deliver both my 1st and 2nd baby because my doctor was on call.  I had a wonderful experience with both of them.

Midwives are better than Drs. Labor is a natural process and most midwives understand that. With a midwife you get the natural aspect plus you get all modern medicine has to offer. Midwives understand that pregnancy does not have to be miserable and they care about the comfort of you while pregnant. Lots of Drs just check for medical issues and send you on your way. Also during delivery Drs come in and check you when you get admitted then comeback when it's time to catch the baby. Midwives stay almost the entire time, they Do go to check other patients that are in labor.

Id rather see my midwife rather than my doctor. My doctor is a male and makes me feel really uncomfortable and doesn't really explain much. Midwife is awesome and asks how I'm doing, if I have any questions... She's a woman, she understands a lot better than a male.

Here in oz you automatically get midwives plural and a doc throughout your pregnancy from the moment your registered at the hospital in which u will give birth. Do you have different options for pregnancy and birth? Sorry to ask just always interesting how different countries work and do things
