How do I look for a birthing center?

I have no way of getting any insurance, at all. We tried all our options. My husband's insurance won't kick in until November, and it won't cover my pregnancy. So, we need as many LOW COST options as we can get. Please help!

We're lucky if we even have money for gas. We buy groceries once ever 2 minths, sometimes 3, and only get about $100-$150 worth of groceries. All our money goes to bills and rent. It's horrible! I don't have an OB yet, because I have no way of going to the doctor, as we have no money left over. I'll try doing the hospital.thing atleast, and see what happens.

You can go to the hospital your ob is at/ where you are gonna have the baby and ask for assistance. My husband and i did that bc what we make goes stright to bills(utilities, rent, gas, phone, grocries) and what is left over is maybe 200 a month if we are lucky and we were approved 100% so we dont pay anything

Missouri medicade is pretty good. I didn't qualify for blue cross blue shield.  So I went state. It takes about 60-70 days for approval.  A lot of hoops and paperwork. But I'm actually grateful for it. For once Missouri isn't so bad...

Missouri is considering expanding medicaid, so it is better than Kanas!

I sent you a private message. I think Missouri might be in the same boat as Kanas, i have to check. Most of the Southern part of the country has this problem....it really bothers me deeply that the governors did this to their people. Over 5.2 million people are without healthcare do to racist governors and red state legislators, they just don't want people to think Obama did something good.

Lovely.... This is why I prefer Missouri! That's were I was born. Ugh... Kansas.

Kanas didn't expand their medicaid to include people with slightly higher income. There is no income limit on the plans offered through healthcare.gov, but you do have to earn over 138% of the federal poverty line. There are subsidies if you are up to 250%, then tax breaks from 250% to 400% but it varies by area.
If you fall between 100% and 138% in Kanas then you are screwed, and you get to thank your governor for that....he could have gotten you healthcare but choose to leave you out. Because he is a racist jerk

I live on Kansas. And yes, my husband's insurance is through his work. We tried Obama care, and it said I didn't qualify. As for medicaid, my husband and I are $424 over the limit. I still want to loom into Kancare, cause it says we qualify for that. But, when we filed online, it should have submitted our application to Kancare too, right? I did this all online, so Idk if I did it wrong or not. If anyone could email me, and help me figure this out, that would be great! I'm 9 weeks, and still haven't seen a doctor. :(

Certified practical midwives (CPMs) will often work with expectant parents on a payment plan for prenatal care and homebirth delivery. In general a homebirth costs several thousand dollars less than a hospital or birthing center. If you are having trouble with coverage this might be an avenue to explore.

Also, Planned Parenthood offers prenatal care at low cost. They charge based on your income.

If you are pregnant, that is considered a life changing event and you can enroll under ACA (obamacare). also under ACA all insurance is required to cover pregnancy/maternity even if you are already pregnant when you enroll, if they refuse - contact your state insurance commissioners office or your congressman.

The income levels for Medicaid vary state to state, since some states ("red" states) refused the money from the federal government to raise the qualifying income to 138% of the federal poverty line. If you are in such a state, please let your governor and state legislator know how much they are ruining your life and endangering the health of you baby (they love unborn babies) - just hate low income people.....

I found myself without insurance also (paperwork error on my part so we got dropped and couldn't sign back up for 6 mo).  I called blue shield and they got me a plan to start the first of the following month. They do not exclude for preexisting conditions,  so covers my pregnancy. Maybe try this??!! Good luck!

To get Obamacare insurance plans you had to sign up during the open enrollment period which ended in March and will not start again till later this year, I believe. Many states have expanded Medicaid which the poster should qualify for as a pregnant woman making what she makes.

You can't just tell them you can't afford it. You actually have to qualify and fill out paper work to get some or all of it paid. Also with Obama care how can you not get ins?  Or are you out of US?

I was told you can tell the hospital you can't afford your bills and they will cut you a slack.

Really? I make more than that and I got medicaid but I do take care of my mum though because she has no job and not willing to work.

What state do you live in? Is your husband's insurance through work?

I can't get any assistance from the state, because I make too much. Yet, I don't nearly make enough to afford doctors visits. I make $11.75 an hour, and only for 29 hours a week. But I do not qualify. It's frustrating that the people that actually need the help, can't get it. :(

That happened to me with my first.... talk to your Dr and the hospital. They cut fairly big breaks if you do a prepay plan. The sooner you set up payment plans the better. My hospital and Dr office were both great about working with me. The only really bad deal was bloodwork.... they did not help out too much. Uggg. This was in Florida so I am not sure if that helps where you are located. It is worth a shot.
