Ladies, please: the flu shot...

Hello Mommies to be! I was on my CNN app just a few minutes ago and read the story of the mom, who both her and her baby (she was 20weeks pregnant), lost their lives because of the flu. She lost the baby last month and she passed this month after being on a ventilator. Her doctor told her she had to wait until after her first trimester to get the shot, but that is untrue. The CDC recommends all pregnant women to get it regardless of what trimester they are in. I just had my first one a couple of weeks ago after the nurses told me how important it is. Of course I was nervous about the side effects (and luckily I didn't get any), but I knew it was way more dangerous to walk out of that office without getting it than it was to have it.
I just wanted to give you all something to think about in case you were still on the fence about the flu shot. Good luck to you all and best wishes!!

I've never gotten it, and neither have my kids. My daughter got the flu this past Christmas, they gave her tamiflu, never doing that again. Her core temperature was 96.5. And im allergic to the egg protein in the shot. So, needless to say, we will never get it.

I should have added this earlier, so I'll throw this in, because it is a huge factor in determining whether I get the flu shot (besides how much I go out in public).
When I get sick with the flu, I get SICK. Coughing, wheezing, migraines, sweating, chills, incapacitating pain (I mean it, incapacitating. I cry if I reach to touch my phone because it hurts too much to move). I also can't eat for at least 1-2 days and hardly manage to drink anything in that time, maybe a glass of water total.
So for me, catching the flu virus is a guaranteed trip to the emergency room, as I need a breathing treatment, need my vitals watched for a bit, help getting hydrated and fed, etc.
If I'm not going out in general and I'm not around more than say 3 people regularly and no children, I probably won't get it.
However, in this case I was staring down a vaccine that would make my arm sore, maybe cause some mild flu symptoms, or a horrendous virus that would also potentially harm my son. That's why I chose to get the shot.

My Dr also told me to get the flu shot. But I have also heard A LOT about the flu shot. I don't plan on getting it. And my bf says the same thing.

I will never get another shot and put that into my body. I do not believe in shots personally especially the flu shot.

I got my flu shot in my second trimester. I wouldn't have gotten it in my first, because that's just too early and I don't want anything weird in my body during that time.
I don't get the flu shot when I'm not around kids or attending a school or anything. I'm not concerned with what the shot may or may not do, as n my opinion it's everything other than the shot you must worry about.
When you get the flu shot, it has three (weakened or dead) strains of the flu. The strain from last year, the strain from this year, and the strain they believe will be present next year. As your immune system reacts to kill and/or clean up these three strains, just about anything could come along and set up camp in your body.

Even my naturopath recommends it when a baby or pregnant woman is involved.  And my sister who studies cancer caused by everyday encounters and knows ppl that work in this area got it.  The problem with vaccines is that for children they give them too many in a short time period exposing them to a high concentration of the metals in them.  But if you  make your own plan on how to have them  administered based on risks and importance and  spread them out you can eliminate these risks that  are pretty low chance as is.  Unfortunately the  perfect diet does not prevent illnesses.  It can help  make you less susceptible but if you do get  something like the flu or whooping cough it can be  just as deadly.  I work with a naturopath from the  best school, that also studied as a midwife and  work on an ideal diet to keep me and my kids well  but believe me we are not incapable of getting just  as sick as others.  And even with getting sock half  as much as their friends we feel like someone is  always sick.  Before vaccines ppl died to these  things, diet did not save them.
I am not saying you are wrong to choose what you have Sammyasmi but I dont think you should make these women feel like they are not healthy and are taking the easy way out bc believe me if diet alone worked I would never get it.  It is true at healthy ages it is enough.  I do not give it to my kids or get it myself unless there is someone pregnant or an infant in the picture that flu season.  As all others it just means as my naturopath says a longer illness but not a life threatening one the other years.  And with yes diet and natural herbs I can help them get better faster.  But brlieve me I do not overlook my kids health.  We do not even use Tylenol in this house (I have one bottle in the house in case a temperature got dangerously high which has never happened) otherwise we use tea and elderberry (except when pregnant never use elderberry pregnant it is known to cause birth defects).  I also never use over the counter cleaners but make all mine out of vinegar, baking soda,  castile soap and essential oils. So I can ensure you that even ppl that do a lot of research and work hard to create a safe and natural environment for her family can see a positive in vaccines that save millions of lives every year.

I'm not getting the flu shot either.  My husband however, may have to. He has a super weak immune system and although in past years I've asked him not to take it, thus year I'd rather he not get sick and risk it. But I agree with sammyasmi, no unnecessary toxins in my body.

I have always been anti flu shots for many reasons and medical journals that I have come across that clearly outline their dangers to pregnant women and their babies.  So when I got pregnant.. I was asked by my doc and I declined.. I refuse to have anything unnecessary put in my body unless it is absolutely necessary.  And flu shot is not one of them. I keep my immune system in chk with a balanced veg. Fruit and supplement diet and I have been good yet so far... thank god..

No need for this stupid vaccine ladies.. try eating healthy first before resorting to artificial stuff..

This is our first pregnancy and we plan on doing the same with both families before the baby comes. I want everyone to get the flu shot and the whooping vaccine as well. And like you said, if they have an issue with it then oh well! This is my child's life we are talking about!! I didn't know that about the 2 week period. I need to see when I got the vaccine because I think I'm right there at the 2 week mark.

I am there with you.  My first pregnancy there was a huge outbreak and a few pregnant women and young infants  in my area lost their lives.  I had planned not to get it but that changed my whole outlook on shots.  I would rather have my children here safe and healthy and neither of us fighting for our lives.  This is also why I make everyone that wants contact with my baby the first 6 months have it.  I have created a lot of enemies in my husbands family with this rule but in my opinion if they wont get one little shot before meeting my babies then they really didnt care to meet them.  But remember it takes 2 weeks to protect you after you get it.
