Membrane Sweep Experiences

I have one scheduled for next Thurs. Soooo to prepare myself I'm wondering on a scale of 1-10 where you moms would rank your discomfort! I'm hoping I'm making it out too be worse in my mind than it really is! I also woukdnt mind knowing how long/quick it was and if you felt it was effective??

Wow! We are all over the map here! Lol.  I never even heard of this until I downloaded this app and read other posts about it.  My first was a week late and a big boy but Im guessing this was never brought up then because I was zero dilated or effaced or even remotely soft cervix with him.  I am now very 'ripe' and 2.5cm. It was offered to me as an option because we have to move out of state 2 weeks after my due date. I want to make sure I'm recovered enough for this. I really don't want another late baby so we scheduled a sweep for next week. Which will be 38 weeks.

No you normally have to ask. I got mine done at exactly 40 weeks and I was not dilated at all like my dr said he could barely get his finger in to do it. I would give it a 1 but I have a pretty high pain tolerance.

I would rate it a 1 maybe a 2 on pain level it just feels like alot of pressure just remembered to breath and try and relax as much as you can (as hard as it is with someone doing that to you haha) youll be fine if your slightly dilated already it hurts even less good luck xx

I had mine done today and I would give it a 1. It didn't bother me at all...so everyone is different. Good luck!

I had one done with my last pregnancy. I don't handle pain well. I would say it was a definite 8 for me and I was 4cm when he did it. I do tense up though, so maybe that was my problem. It didn't work for me, I was induced a week later at 5cm. He wasn't going to come out! It hurt so bad that I dug my fingernails into my doctors hip. If he would have been turned a little more I would have grasped his manly hood! I was so embarrassed when I realized it could have been a groping moment! Lol I don't know if I'll do it again this pregnancy, although I do desire to go into labor on my own. I've always been induced.

do you have to request a membrane sweep or do they just do it on their own? i will be 40 weeks next thursday and i dnt think i will go into labor before then because i have been stuck at 1 cm for 4 weeks now. i just want to get this little guy out. its killing me.

Thank you! I just watched a YouTube video and the girl said it was over in about 30 seconds BUT that her Ob was "really reaming her" which made me totally crack up. I'm going to be the tense up type for sure. I tense up when I'm getting my nails done! They complain about my stiff fingers! I'll prob have cement legs for this! Lol

its rather invasive,  but the invasive is worse when you have baby.  it is quick and can hurt a little. my trick is breath out while its being done. most cases it works. however sometimes a second or third sweep is needed. in my last pregnancy my dr did a sweep on me and I went into labor the next day. I was also induced the next day, they were planing on doing the baloon tecnic, which can take up to a week.. however the sweep brough my labour on in such a way that they induced me right then and 9 hrs latter I had my baby boy. good luck. try not to steess it.

I got one with my first and I dont think its bad at all. I would put it at a 1 or 2. A lot of people tense up which makes it hurt but if you keep calm and relax your body it shouldnt unless you have someone rough. We will just say this time I got checked on tuesday and I couldn't tell if she did a sweep or not. It literally takes a few seconds to do so nothing bad and the first time it was 6 days later.
