My OBGYN prescribed me 800mg ibuprofen?

This is my 4th pregnancy and I thought ibuprofen was a big no-no. I have had constant headaches for the past 3 months so he gave me that.  Anyone else been prescribed ibuprofen?  Or know anything more about it?

I am sure each doctor is different, but my OB said only Tylenol is recommended and since my headaches were so bad he prescribed Tylenol with codeine, which is still much safer than ibuprofen.  I think what is important is that you are comfortable with what your doctor recommends, and if you aren't, talk to them about it.

My doc told me the same thing. He told me as long as I'm  not in my first trimester that it was perfectly safe.

So I did a little reading and I don't know why I was thinking blood thinner cuz I know it's not just knew it had something to do with blood flow... It's strongly not recommended in the third trimester because there is a valve in the baby's heart that can close prematurely causing heart problems and even death. The valve isn't supposed to close until birth when it does so automatically. It has to stay open because your body is pumping blood for the baby and if it closes can lead to serious problems. They say it's still up in the air for the first and second trimester and that's why they say best to avoid but can be taken in small dosages occasionally.... 800mg is not a small dosage... If you feel safe taking it I wouldn't do a full 800mg which is honestly the same as taking 4 200mg tablets. I'm not a Dr so cant reply give medical advise but still would rather the headache than the risk of damage to my baby. Have you tried getting a message first or visited the chiropractor. I did that during my first pregnancy and baby was totally fine. I would go that route. I had a massive migraine earlier this week and after taking 2 Tylenol and my mom rubbing my neck and shoulders and it finally went away. I am prone to extended migraines that are hereditary so I know prolonged headaches are the pits. I had several knots in my back and I think that was the problem and a stressful week.

A doctor will prescribe you things that are not usually ok when they feel the risk is minimal when compared to the problem. I was prescribed medicine for migraines and it was a class c.... I ended up not needing it in the end. Headaches went away..well lessened. But thats what the neurologist told me.
Usually with medicines its not so much that its unsafe but more that its unknown and they need to cover their butts. Its illegal to do studies on pregnant women... so they are left guessing most of the time.

Anyway, id call your doctor and ask. They're not always perfect. Once I was prescribed penicillin after stating several times that Im dealthy allergic to it. So sometimes they're just on autopilot...

No aspirin works as a blood thinner. NSAIDs such as ibuprofen do not thin the blood. My grandpa and dad both have to take blood thinners and can only use NSAIDs and Tylenol with their blood thinning drugs so as not to thin the blood too much.

I thought it was a blood thinner of some sort and that's why they say no especially in the third trimester. I would still call for a second opinion or ask your Dr why it's now safe to have it

I always thought it was a no no but just read in a pregnancy magazine that ibuprofen is as safe as Tylenol to use during pregnancy. It said any NSAID pain reliever is safe in moderation. None should be over used though bc all including Tylenol can cause low amniotic fluid so I would only use it when you have to but not feel guilty either when you do have to use it.

It is a big no no... I would not take it! Maybe call a different Dr.
