TDaP dilemma

My bro/sis-in-law are asking all family members to get the TDaP vaccination before meeting their newborn.  Being pregnant myself and not a proponent of vaccines in general,  I'm hesitant to get it, but don't want to cause major family drama and not be able to "see their baby for 6 months".  Thoughts...?

Thank you ladies.. I know that not everybody is going to agree with me.. But it is nice to know that there are people out there who share the same views as my husband and I.. And like I said before I may not agree with VAXs but I'm not going to shove my beliefs down somebody's throat that chooses to.. People do it to us all of the time. I really should be used to it by now.. But sometimes it makes me feel like people think we are bad parents. We don't VAX because we believe that is what is best for our children. And at the same time parents VAX their children because they believe that is what Is best for their children.. I guess I just need to face the fact that it's such a touchy issue

Im having my first child and im completely scared of any and all meds and vax, im not so trusting when it comes to the government having my and my babies health in heart, they do alot of sneaky things behind our backs i havent got the flu shot along with other vax since about 8 im 25 and just fine.i have been reading so much on meds and vax and the things put in our foods, clothes and, every day things we use, on top of seeing someone die because of a so called vaccine, its just alot to take in and very confusing i dont blame mommaof2 for not vaxing who says there telling u the truth about wat they r giving u and ur children thats just my thoughs

I agree with you. I got my daughter all her vaccines like I was supposed to Bc i thought the government and all of its agencies had my best interest, I wondered why anyone would ever think otherwise... ha... hahaha. Ha. Ya, then I started reading studies that major journals refuse to publish due to government restrictions and learning what the fda did to all the great cancer cures. Its scary stuff, it's really scary. Autism has been cured by heavy metal (mercury) removal. Talk about preventable diseases! I don't know about 100% not vaccinating for me, I have to continue researching, but I TOTALLY get and support your decision. And rod3, thankyou! I picked that book up a few months ago but have yet to read it, I definetely will now! Keepsmiling2012 I was not even aware that it was 60% effective, I thought it was waaay lower. I do know that flu vaccine testing has been very poorly and minimally conducted and what they have found they conclude could be a healthy user effect. It is also not advised for pregnant women by the manufacturers Bc no studies have been conducted. We are the most highly vaccinated country in the world and we have the highest infant mortality rate in the world. If you don't think there is a connection here, than that's on you. Vaccine injury is scary and it's real.

Mommaof2munchkins yes of course! People can be harsh. It is the best book out there with facts. Best thing as a parent is to be knowledgeable. No one here is bad for their decision.

Our newspaper runs ads, they do info segments on the news, etc. urging people right now to get that vaccine due to the whopping cough outbreaks.  Unless you live in a bubble, you've probably seen it.  When you have a baby, everything changes.  Like, you want to protect that baby with ALL your might.  My husband was so funny with our newborn.  He would require everyone to wash IN FRONT of him or I before getting in the same room as the baby.  HE changed his clothes when he got back to the house because he didn't want to carry anything in or have outside dirt get on the baby.  And, he's not really like that.  But that baby made him want to do everything in his power to be safe.

So, to me---  it is easy to see how a family with a new baby and the publicity going on right now could have this rule.

You have to decide if you do it or not but I don't think they are wrong for the rule.  They are in the midst of that new baby, make everything safe phase and that is all they are concerned about.  I get it.  And I might be the same way too.  The CDC is pretty much telling everyone that this is the proper thing to do.

good luck

My personal opinion is if you chose not to get the vaccination that is ok, but when your not able to see the baby or attend anything don't cause a fuss about it! I am very much in favour of vaccinations and to anyone who tells me to do my research on any injuries ect I tell them to go up to the children's ward of a hospital and see how many children are up there with preventable illnesses! My mum has been a nurse giving vaccinations at the same doctors office for 25 years and she has NEVER had anyone have an adverse reaction! I'm all for choice but when it comes to vaccinations and protecting our children and ourselves from all these illness I am very much pro vaccination and will argue my point to anyone!

Wow! This all has been very informational! Growing up my brother and I only got shots that were required by the school in order to enroll. We never had flu shots, and ate home grown things as well as stuff from the store. This was also 20-34yrs ago. Seeing how others every time that got the flu vax would end up sicker then dogs. I never understood the point of them. They only have a 60% affective ness( stats from the dr.) and it only covers that one stran of virus. Another healthcare worker told me there is ingredients like murcery that are thought to be causing all of these childhood issues like autism, ADHD, etc. I'm not totally anti vax, but believe not everything is safe. Just like you've all probably seen the woman that had the flu shot and now is unable to walk forward. She calasps into a seizure, unable to talk normal, but walking and running backwards she functions perfectly heathly. There were some vax. that I turned down with my first due to being uninformed. Now 2yrs old, we've had a few little colds here and there, but your body needs to build up it's own antibodies. With getting all these shots that's why your immune system isn't doing it's job. I didnt realize the whopping cough was that big of an issue, never knew anyone who had it, and just thought it's just another form of a respiratory cold. I will look into it more. I agree with protecting our babies, everything about them is tiny.

The only thing that I have left to say is that while people do vax their kids it doesn't always work, plus there are people who are allergic to some of the ingredients, and there are people who cannot be vaxed because of an immune system problem, like those with cancer, so when people do not vax their kids they are putting all of those other people at risk not just their children. I also hope that the people who do not vax their kids are feeding there children all organic foods and things that are not made from gmos or meat from animals that are fed hormones and antibiotics because you are increasing your child's chances of not being able to fight off something by doing that. The antibiotics that is found in meat and dairy products and many other things increase resistance to antibiotics in many diseases meaning that a doctor prescribed antibiotics is not going to work as well if at all. Just something to think about, plus I was told by my Dr that if the family has gotten the trap within the last 5 years they so not need to get it again. Only the mother because it gets some of the antibodies into the baby's system.

Thank you rod3..I will read that.. You're comment has been the most helpful of all the ones on here. It happens to me all of the time since we do not VAX our children people always jump to a quick conclusion and judge us.. And try to shove their beliefs down our throat. We will probley still  continue to not VAX. But thank you for not judging and at least partially understanding where I am coming from on the whole non VAX issue.

I recommend Dr. SEARS VACCINATION book. It is a very informative book and not biased. It is not pro anything but pure info. It helps those who will vaccinate, those who will limit vaccines and those who do not. It lets you know that some vaccines can be limited to one dosage if given at a later age, to ones that can be determined if you are immune to it with a blood test and so on. After reading it I have decided to opt out on some but definitely get the ones that the risks out way my personal feelings. Tdap and pc are my top ones.

If you are so confident that they work why are you so worried.. You should be more worried about my children getting sick. And it is a personal choice. If you want to pump all of those toxins into yourself or your children so be it that is your choice just like it is our choice not to VAX our perfectly healthy children. I it's just us doing what we believe is best for our children it is completely legal we are doing everything within our rights.

@Meagan- I totally agree. But at the same time to each their own I guess. I respect other people's decisions even tho I don't agree with it. I've just seen so many times how not vaccinating causes death. Working in healthcare and running an OB unit it happens frequently. So I'm pretty bias because of what I've seen. I just feel sad when babies die from things that could have been prevented

I hate how some people put other kids lives at risk bc they are to selfish to get their kids vaccinated. I feel like it shouldn't be a choice but should be the law.

Also....your right....her brother can't make her get the vaccine....but if I was him I can certainly stop her from being around my baby. I don't want to kill my child.

I've seen 3 babies in the last 2 years die before 3 months with whooping cough that either A- someone in their family refused to get, B- or the mother refused to get. I've seen it happen even more being that I've worked In healthcare for the last 15 years. It gives your children antibodies to fight off these diseases. What is there to question. I hear ALOT of people say DO YOU RESEARCH but you should also research the recent resurfacing of diseases that were eradicated but are now becoming prevelant again because people don't vaccinate their children. I think it's really sad....I know people who significantly changed their mind the day they hurried their newborn from a disease that could have been prevented. To each their own I guess....but to me not getting my kids vaccinated is like putting a gun to their heads opinion. Just my opinion.

You are right that every patent has the right to choose what happens in their child's life.. The reason we do not VAX is we know and know of way too many people that have been injured from them. It is our personal choice. I do not condemn people who do VAX even though I strongly disagree with it because the parents Bellwood's that is what is best for their child. Just like my husband and I believe this is what is best for our children.

UN vax ed children are the reason why so many virus changed so all us that vax our children is really pointless against a different strain of the virus.. plus puking ur children at risk of serious illness that could be preventable why risk it but every one has the right to decide what happens within in their child's life and health

My son had his and me and hubby had one it did nothing to prevent him from catching it at 6 mouths we still don't know who gave it to him.. but having the vaccine did lessen the severity of the illness everyone who was around my son was put on antibiotics for a week or so to prevent (family who had)from catching it when u see you child sick even though u did everything right is scarey..and stressful :/

Doesn't make sense if you get vaxed while pregnant to have everyone get vaxed. My family is huge, and when ever one new cousin was born we all didn't get rushed into the pharmacy to get vaxed. We got our vaxs when needed for school and at the ages they are given. If you vax yourself while pregnant and get baby vaxed at the next appropriate time for it, then why should everyone have to get vaxed, if they have also kept up with their own health? To each their own, and what they want their families to do, but each time I see one of these posts about vax or not vax its ridiculous what others say and hardly anyone has anything nice to say on a mother choice.

luxah,  the rule of thumb here is anyone who is going to be holding the baby more than once needs to get vaxed.  So in public,  strangers won't be holding the baby,  and neither will the baby be crawling around on surfaces that could be contaminated.

Pediatricians here are adamant.  Family gets vaxed.
