Ultrasound Question!

I had my last ultrasound at 6 weeks and now I am 13 weeks and I was curious how many everyone else had at this point?

My husband and I are moving from Ca to Il on April 9th so they moved my next Dr appointment up to tomorrow and I'm curious if it'd be crazy for me to demand an ultrasound? I really want to because I don't want to wait until I get insurance and everything figured out in Il. I'm also hoping for a peak at the gender!

Would you demand one?

Im 16w and haven't had an US yet, only dopplers listening to the heartbeat at 8w and 12w. I'm sure my appt today will be another doppler, we scheduled an US for 20w.

There's been no proof that ultrasounds cause any problems or damage but there also hasn't been studdies to prove it or not. I personally prefer to keep my ultrasounds to minimum just in case but I would think the risk is very minimal or they would have noticed a link by now. With my first and third babies i had just one US each and with my second and this baby I'll have had three each.

So strange how much it varies per person and Dr but it definitely makes sense.

Debbie... There aren't harmful side effects of too many, as they wouldn't be able to do them so frequently with high risk pregnancies and I don't think it'd be linked to autism at all. I haven't seen or heard any research on that. My little sister is autistic and it was actually a drastic switch after an appointment where she got 4 vaccines. I'm not saying they cause autism in every child but she sure was a changed baby after that.

US is unnecessary exposure to radiation, which is not good for developing fetuses. That's why they keep it to 2 unless more are necessary. It would be fun to see the baby more often but the risk isn't worth it.

Only 2 one at 1st visit and the other at 21 weeks when I found out gender. That's usually it unless there is a need to have more.

I would research the potential risks of frequent ultra sound to a developing fetus.   If there are no complications in pregnancy then it is recommended that US use be minimal.  In mice frequent us exposure alters brain development.   I wouldn't risk it out of mere curiosity.   Perhaps over use of us is a cause of the rise in autism ...

Uk is one at 12 weeks and one at 20 unless there's health problems they need to monitor closer. I wish I could see my baby girl more but never mind I'll meet her soon enough :)

I think it depends on the Dr. I have gotten one every appointment. But my Dr said she likes to do a lot. I am on county assistant so Idk how much it costs.

Thank you all so much! I'm going to ask for one for sure because I don't feel like waiting until 20 weeks and the worst they can say is no. Babypav.. like Pavelski?! Love the Sharks! But that's how my friends have been and I had one at 5 weeks because they thought I was 10 and then 6 weeks to make sure the fetal pole attached so I think it's time for another. Mona... I don't think ultrasounds are bad for baby or they wouldn't do them so often right? I hope so at least.

Good luck to everyone in their pregnancies and congratulations!

I have gestational diabetes and have to be monitored twice a week and they also do a sono twice a week to keep an eye on everything.  So I have had more than I can count.

I got one one at 9 weeks than another one at 14 weeks than another one at 21 weeks and because they didn't get his measurement because the baby didn't want to show them the head they did me another one at 24 weeks . Also I got one at 27 weeks in the emergency room because they thought I was going into labor but I wasn't . I'm so waiting to be around 35 weeks to get a 3D ultra sound

I'm in CA and i have had one at every single one of my appts. I'm ftm and their are no complications,  they just do it every time. So i am 20w 5d and have had 5 already.  As for the early gender scans,  I was told boy at 14w and girl at 18w and 20w. Things aren't fully developed till 16 to 17 weeks alto it's fun to guess. Good luck!

wow, lucky me then! lol my OB's nurse said I'll probably get 4-5.. but they're also keeping an eye on a subchorionic hemorrhage I have..

I had one at 9w6d.. not sure if I'll get one at my next appt. or not @ 13w6d..
check with your insurance.. they may be really strict on only giving you the allowed amount that the ins. company will pay for..

good luck!! ((:

In the UK we just get two. One at 12wks to date your pregnancy and then one at 20wks for gender. They will scan more if any complications occur but if you want 3/4d we have to pay. X

Wow I didn't realize people got so few because I know so many people who got them regularly. Thank you ladies! I've had friends find out at 13 weeks and it stays consistent so I just want a guess really and that's so crazy about the sex changing, I didn't think the 20 week scan was ever wrong!
