baby's head measuring large on ultrasound

Hi Ladies,

I just had my growth ultrasound at 33 weeks and baby's head is measuring large around 37 weeks - my doctor is having me go to a specialist to check for any fluid in the brain or other potential problems. She did not seem overly concerned and viewed it as a precaution but I can't help but worry. Did this happen with anyone? What were the results? Thank you!

Me and all my brothers had big heads lol. My baby's head I measuring a couple weeks ahead as well. I'm not worried because it runs in our family. :)

Haha,I know, that won't be fun! Might have to have a c-section though I'd rather avoid that. :)

I am sure everything is fine, the specialist as a precaution.

I do however feel for you pushing out the large head. (Sorry I had to add that to lighten up the situation) please keep us updated.

As an update, baby looks great, specialist said nothing is concerning and the baby is in the 75th percentile for weight at 6 pounds 4 ounces. Yay!

I knew a Mom who was induced 3 weeks early due to a 10 lb+ baby, who spent 4 weeks in hospital because the baby was 5 lbs with lung issues! They can be very off! So it's good to take precautions but hopefully all is well just like it seems to be with your little bun :)

With my first  they diagnosed me with intrauterine growth restriction.  They stated my sons head was in the 100% and his body in the less then 10%    he was born at 38w 4d weighing 6lbs 14oz. Perfect with no problems.  No huge head.......     they are not always correct on measurments :)

Thanks! She said the ventricals were not seen to be enlarged on the scan so that's a good sign that there isn't fluid, but she still wants the second opinion. Feeling like things are OK but still anxious!

I would'nt worry too much about it sometimes measurements can be off. Ive had nine children and now pregnant with twins and by experience with u/s they aren't very accurate when it comes to weights unless you very early in your pregnancy. Thats my opinion though.
