Breast feeding should never be painful. If it is it's cos of a bad latch. The best advice for latching I got was do not bend over baby (really bad for latch and your back). Bring baby to you and support with pillows. Practice makes perfect. The first 2 weeks are the hardest but after that it's a breeze. Try many different kinds of positions. My favorite was side laying in bed but that takes practice after you get good at latching. With latching the key is to get a lot of your areola in to babies mouth to force the nipple to the back of their mouth. I used the "hamburger" technique. Basically squeeze your areola and nipple together like a hamburger and start by inserting the bottom areola, followed by the nipple, and top areola in last. If your latch hurts longer than the first 30 seconds (residual pain from your previous bad latches) you haven't got enough nipple in and should take baby off and start again. You can delatch baby by sticking your pinky in the side of their mouth. For the pain from past bad latches you can use lanolin cream and also vitamin e oil. Good luck and remember not to settle for a bad latch!
Pacifier. Or binky. Whichever term you use.
Dummy? I am not trying to be rude at all here, this is just a new term for me. What is a dummy (when referring to breastfeeding)?
Also, just my opinion, nipple shields can help but u get plugged milk ducts because the shield has 4 little holes. Ur nipple has way more. So baby isn't able to pull milk from all the milk glands. Causing plugged milk ducts all the time! Ouch! And u could get mastitis. I did because my breast wasn't being emptied properly so I go an infection from a plugged milk duct. Very painful! :(
My first son was 8.3 lbs and 21" and breastfeeding was so painful. I didn't know enough. I only bf him for a month :( with my other two boys, I was able to bf them for 13 months! But can I just say, lanolin cream is a lifesaver!! Some women have no issues, very little soreness. For me, all my boys are 2 years apart and still it is very painful in the beginning. I use the cream after every feeding! Every-single-feeding! For about 2 months. I tried to stop using the cream after 5 weeks with my third (thinking my nipples would be more use to it?) ....nope. It was painful! After a couple months I don't use it at all. But honestly they are amazing!! They sell the Lansinoh brand at target. It's a little purple tube like $8. Trust me, use it after every feeding! Bf is so amazing! Hope all the tips u are getting help!! Good job momma!
Lansinoh nipple ointment! Most amazing stuff in the world for sore nipples. If you're still in the hospital ask if they have samples.
Watch a youtube clip. ..make sure he roots for it by brushing his cheek and when his mouth opens wide ..zoom him on lol. I waz shown by a great midwife years ago. .took a couple of weeks for soreness to go but so worth it in the end. Let your milk dry on your nipples that heals it well...and air them. Dont give a dummy for at least a month..just every time he cries feed him. I gave my daughter a dummy at the beginning and my milk wasnt coming in as she wasn't stimulating it. The midwife told me the dummy was like a chewing gum and sge was really actually hungry. Thank god for her though as after that and throwing the dummy away...I fed herevevery time she cried...my milk came in and she gained weight. Latching on properly will reduce the pain. .make sure you have pillows around you and under him as will make it more easy for you both. Goodluck and congratulations! =)
Congratulations on the arrival of your son!! Take care and best of luck!
Congrats! Yeah its not easy and its painful but try maybe pumping you breast first for a bit with a breast pump, so you canget your nipple more in shape ready and pointing out more.

Nipple sheilds they should have them at the hospital it can help for the first couple days, or ask your partner to run out and get you some makes a world of difference
Sorry to hear that, congratulations on your little bundle of joy!. Try stimulating your nipples before you breastfeed so that they are kinda hard and pointing ou. Also are you using nipple cream to keep them from cracking? Hope everything works out for you. I know my first couple of days were kinda rough but hang in there ,your doing great all ready.
