If it is the first flu shot they give two give the immune system a extra boost of immunity. Thay is the best way to describe it. You should always get your flu shot unless you have a immune system problem. The shot is effective for the strain of the flu it was made for this year as far as I know. But there could be other strains going around this year that it will not work for. Specialmom is right tamiflu only works within the first few hours and after that there is not Mich you can so other than rest, Tylenol and fluids.

Oh, well.  I wouldn't assume it is the flu.  there are a lot of nasty viruses out there.

Flu comes on like a ton of bricks.  It's all respiratory related with high fever and body aches. When people have the flu, they can do NOTHING else and are very sick.  Usually it doesn't last long but again, is so intense it is like nothing else you've experienced.  I had it in college----  several in my dorm had it.  Then I had it one time right after college when working at a hospital.  It really does feel different than anything else.

She may just have a virus.  You can warm up apple juice for her ---   my kids like that and it is soothing to the throat.  I would try to stay away from cough medicine.  Coughing is the bodies way of expelling extra mucus and if you suppress it, that is when it builds up and people get pneumonia or bronchitis or sinusitis (the secondary infections I was talking about).

Does your daughter have a high fever?

No flu shot for me. Dr said that it wasn't effective this year. My daughter got 2. Dr has not seen my daughter only talked on the phone. And she has developed a cough.

Ugh, did you get your flu shot??

The truth about flu is that legitimate flu is pretty rare.  They have an in office test for it at pediatricians offices.  But FLU is a virus.  They can't do much for it once it passes 48 hours (when if you are going to take Tamiflu--  you have to get it in your system).

Otherwise, flu has to run its course.  Flu will go away----  and keeping her as comfortable as possible and hydrated is the most important thing.  What becomes dangerous with flu are the secondary infections.  pneumonia for example.

I'd CALL your pediatrician for guidance.  When should the flu run its course --  are they sure it is the flu (did they do the in office test)--  is there anything you can give her (but probably just Tylenol or ibuprofen.  I gave my kids mucinex  (they make childrens) at that age too.

I would avoid the office if you can----  more germs in the office from OTHER sick kids.

And you need to wash your hands frequently and get rest and take extra vitamin c.  Hopefully you had a flu shot since you are pregnant.  good luck
