glucose test

Hbx
I have my test tomorrow and I did not eat any sweets today.  The last thing I ate was eggs around an hr ago. A few of my friends who took this already told me you can't eat after midnight,  but my dr told me I can eat an hr before my test. I was going to have some eggs about three hrs before my test.  I don't know what to do. I really do not want to fail and take the 3 hr test.

Snowdin28 I love what you said. People always try to cheat the test and I don't think they realize what an issue it is. Personally when I went for my first appt I got a big binder with information about the practice, all the drs, all the tests that will be done and when, and a description of what will happen at each visit as well as info on immunizations and other stuff... I'm beginning to wonder if anyone else got a resource like this from their Dr?

Why are woman on this app always trying to "cheat" the test? Eat how your doctor told you to eat.  If you have gestational diabetes your body WONT process sugar within an hour of the drink they give you and you will fail regardless of your previous sugar fast. This is definatly something you need to know about if you have it. Your baby's pancreas is at stake and will depend on a proper diet and possibly insulin if you do in fact have it. Good luck on your test, I hope you pass.

I asked my Dr 3 times just to be 100%,sure and she said they are not. Checking my cholesterol with my blood work so there is no reason to fast. I could eat right up until I drank the drink. I just avoided carby startchy foods and I passed.  Glad I ate cuz they took 15 tubes of blood from me and I probably would've passed out lol.

My first pregnancy (my 9 yr old) I was told to fast after midnight. But every pregnancy after that (#4 now) I've been told to eat protein as it would not affect the test. It also helps to have eaten so you don't throw up that drink, which makes the test not doable. Like with a lot of things, drs have different opinions based on which studies they've read. You're safe to eat some eggs! :)

@mckaylasmomma, its because our dr's told us we cannot eat at all.  I even told my dr about the ladies on this app who get to eat high protien and she looked like that was the weirdest thing she's ever heard and said absolutly not :(  I have to take my test this week and my body doesn't do well when I'm hungry :(

I ate heaps of ice cream the night before my test (in Australia we just do the 3 hr test first up)...and then had to fast from midnight, I was fine. I figure it means I'm definitely fine if my body could process all that sugar and could still pass!

I didn't have anything sugary the day before and fasted for my one hour and I still had to take the three hour for this pregnancy.  My first pregnancy I was not careful at all and had a mcgriddles an hour before the one hour test. I passed that one.

I dont know why all these mommas say not to eat. .. you can eat for the 1hr test, not the 3hr test... just do as they said... eat at least 1hr before... if you have GD it will show up whether you eat or not... my 1st test I fasted and still failed... the 3hr was the same-- yet I felt like crap from not eating

I work as a medical assistant, at ob gyn office. And you can have something to eat 1 hour before the blood draw. Don't worry I recommended you eating you will feel better.

I've always fasted before my glucose test. Didn't eat anything after 10 and I always made sure to book my apts early in the morning g bc you'll have to sit there for about an hour. I suggest not to eat anything until after the test and drink lots of water.
