glucose tolerance test???

Hi everyone :)
I have my glucose test coming up this friday. I'm 27 weeks. And I've been dreading this test since the very beginning. Can anyone give a little insight on how the test goes. It's the first one so the one hour..hoping to pass. Do you feel sick? Or dizzy or weir from that high concentration of sugar??? Anything to worry about??

Thank you all for easing my mind!! Doesn't seem to be as bad as I've been anticipating. I go Friday so I'll let everyone know what my experience is. Not as nervous as I was though :) just let's hope it's only the 1 hour. 3 seems a bit intense.

This is my second 3 hour test, i have mine tomorrow.  The reason for that is because at the beginning of this pregnancy my doctor said i was obese. I weighed 218 lbs. I failed that one by 2 points. Now i needed to take a second round of stupid tests which i failed the 1 hour by 15 points this time, so now the three hour awaits me yeh! I do have a family history of diabetes on both sides so i guess it's better for me to be watched so closely, but it doesn't take away the fact that it's very annoying to sit through all these tests.

The test *****. It is dreadful simply because the test always makes me sick. Too much sugar! I have one coming up this Friday and I really don't want to go. So you might get sick but the best way to get that stuff out of ya is to drink lots of water eat a little something and go to bed. My results always came back all good but as ya get older your body does that aging thing and the body tends to the dumps. Just to put it nicely.  Regardless, it is a test that is more for the well being of your little one there than anything.  Just don't drink anything that has sugar in it before you that the test or you won't be happy with your results.  Good luck to yas.

I did mine today.   I had to drink it in 5 min they said.  They gave it to me as soon as I got there.  Luckily it was cold.  It tasted like a flat orange soda.  It made me a little queasy and gave me a little headache,  but I don't really eat a lot of sugar.  I had my appointment with the dr and after that (at the one hour mark) they drew my blood.  I will get the results Thursday or Friday.  Hoping and praying for a good result.  I didn't get to eat right away as I had to run a couple errands.  So it was 3 hours after drinking the drink when I ate.  By that time I started getting shaky.  After eating tho...I've felt completely fine.  Good luck ladies! Sorry for the long post. Lol

You must fast the night before. Meaning no eating anything after midnight. They usually do it for 1 hour you'll drink a very sweet orange drink. Then they'll draw blood to see your sugar. If its a bit high anything over 110 I believe you must go back to do a 3 hour glucose. If it is found that your sugar remains high. You have Gestational Diabetes which only occurs during pregnancy, but could be dangerous to your baby. So your doctor will order you on a strict diet. Good Luck!!!

I'm working on making Baby #3, and a few tricks I learned about the glucose test from Baby #1 to Baby #2, take a straw.  Sounds silly,  but they don't start the time til after you have finished the drink.  I thought it was too sweet and had a hard time drinking it the first time,  with the straw I got it right down. I think my numbers were effected with the amount of time it took to drink it too (not positive,  but that's what I blame). Good luck and relax!

It's no big deal. I never felt sick from it,  although thought the drink tasted gross, lol. You'll be fine:)

I just had mine a week ago. My office had different flavors so I did the fruit punch. Honestly it tasted exactly like Hawaiian fruit punch drink from the store. It didn't make me sick or dizzy or anything... had my blood taken an hour later. No big deal :)

I had mine done last week and had been dreading it since I got my positive for pregnancy and I wish I hadn't even wasted time thinking about it. The drink was good and I just talked to my husband the whole hour, got my blood taken and left. Very easy and painless :)

1 hr test is not so bad, they take blood then you drink the glucose drink and then in an hr one more blood draw! I failed my 1 hr so had to do the 3 hr, and that one it is hard!!

I was told you drink a drink almost like a flat extremely sugary orange soda then they take your blood an hour later to see how your body is affected by the glucose. The blood being drawn I'm not worried about its the drink itself! And waiting that hour to see how you feel.
