There is a lot of controversy on whether the pros outway the cons. It only protects from certain strains and works differently depending on your immune system. Last year everyone in my family got the flu shot except for me and we all got the same flu with the same severity. Also, Dr's are always going to tell you its safe and to get it. That's what they are supposed to tell you. So just use your own judgement.

Theres 2 kinds of vaccines ones with dead viruse and ones with weakened virus I got mine at 18 weeks had one at 10weeks I think with my first I got it more than anything because baby can't get flu shot for their first yr and it gives them some protection from u. If u get it just watch for any symptoms or side effects.  Ur more likely to get sick being preggo but only real danger is if u get a fever especially early on

WebMD is not a reliable source. If you're concerned, speak to your doctor, but he/she will probably tell you to get the shot if you can. The flu shot does not make you sick (unless you're allergic to eggs), but it is not a guarantee against every strain of flu. It is extra protection against usually three strains of flu that they predict will spread during that season. If another strain goes around that was not expected, the shot will not protect you against it. But it's still better than nothing. Some people get sick after getting a flu shot and blame it on the shot, but they were actually already sick when they got the shot. Influenza has an incubation period of a couple weeks, so they wouldn't even have known they were sick yet. Speaking as someone who has respiratory problems, the flu (and pneumonia, which accompanies the flu for me) are the worst experiences I have had. If you can be immunized, you should. Not just for your safety, but for the safety of people around you (it's called herd immunity).

The flu shot is not a live virus and does not make you sick. Like the pp said, do your research- any research will tell you that. Only the nasal spray has a live virus and that's why it's not recommend for pregnant women. I never get the shot, got the flu this year and was hospitalized for almost two weeks as a result. Get the shot.

If I had had the foresight to get mine before I was pregnant, I would have. And if I could get a flu shot now, I would, but my province is out of the vaccine. I have been advised to avoid people with the flu if I can, and get the shot for both me and baby next flu season. Good luck, and yes, it's safe.

The shot is 20-60% effective at preventing the flu and actually made me sick. It is your choice but i wont be doing it again

I got mine when I was about 20 weeks... my work gives them to us every year as a"perk" lol but when I asked my Dr to make sure it was ok she said definitely if you have any side effects following tho you should contact them but u think it's a smart choice!

Not only safe, but recommended.  Some years, the particular kind of flu that is going around hits pregnant women dangerously hard (along with babies and older people and people who are immunocompromised) and I think I've heard that this is one of those years.  I got a flu shot when pregs and was never sorry.  In fact, I've gotten one every year since having my son, and frankly would never be without it again, as I HATE getting the flu.
