It can be done with permission from your OB. I have had a ton of dental work done during this pregnancy. I have had a tooth extraction, a root canal, and multiple fillings.
I'm 31 weeks. Have a cracked wisdom tooth. I've called 15 different dentist offices. No one will do anything being this far along. Nothing is helping the pain. I don't sleep at all. Can't take anything. It's the worst pain ever!
A piece of the drill bit broke off in my tooth and the doctor said it happens and is no big deal. Should I be worried????
Also they put me on antibiotics they said it was infected.
Hey its funny I had a root canal today. I'm what we believe to be almost 8 weeks. My doctors OKed me to have the work done. And for the pain they are giving me Tylenol with codeine. They put 2 lead shields on me when they had to take xrays. So if your ob will give the OK it shouldn't be an issue.
My gums started hurting at 20 weeks. Researched it, spoke with my OB and found the best time to have dental work if absolutely needed is in the 2nd trimester. Your OB will need to approve it by getting the list of treatment needed of everything your dentist will be doing and using on you so they can approve or deny or adjust the amount given. Its typically ok if the risk of the procedure is less harmful than the problem itself. As im sure your aware that infections of any sort (vaginal, oral) are linked to preterm labor & or birth weight, which is why most OBs would inquire about the problem & process to remedy it from your dentist.
im booked in for a wisdom tooth removal in a fortnights time and ill be 26w+6d. dentist said it is fine! im just thinking it could get a whole lot worse with a newborn and not being able to make the time anymore after she arrives! but i have been recommended clove oil also! give it a shot and see how u feel. all the best!
Am 21 weeks n 3 days next week ill be on Thursday 6 months n just found out am expecting a girl wiiiiiiii
I had toothache too for a week but the first 3 days were the worst i was taking antibiotics and painkillers didn't help at all.i was putting cloves on the teeth that helped alot.
I went in needing a crown and he said if it started bothering me a lot then they will fix it in the 2nd or 3rd trimester but only if they really need to. If it doesn't bother me, then I can wait until after giving birth. I've learned to favor the opposite side of the problem tooth when eating and it's been fine.. I wonder if using adult orajel is safe during pregnancy or if that would even help you? Good luck!
If it's just sensitivity, try sensodyne toothpaste. You can take a small amount after brushing and rub it on the tooth that hurts. My teeth have been so sensitive this pregnancy and it has helped.
How far along are u? U can actually get it extracted and I should know I am a certified oral surgery assistant. We see pregnant women for extractions frequently. Local anesthesia is safe during pregnancy.
Dentist are so stupid if your tooth is infected it would be way worse for the baby than a little dental work. You should definitely at least be put on antibiotics. Maybe ask your ob about him giving you the antibiotic since the dentist won't, its so bad to have infection in your body while pregnant. I feel for you hun I had a lot of tooth problems while I was pregnant. But I had a dentist that would still do some work on my teeth.
If it's infected I would ask to about goin on an antibiotic. I was put on the Z pack due to getting bronchitis when I was 7 months. I'm sure your Dr can prescribe something for it.
Depends on where you live some places the dentists are willing to treat with permission from ob. On the other hand other places they will not treat a pregnant woman even if her face swells up like a basketball. Good luck I have a bad tooth and take Tylenol and gargle with hot salty water and put a hot wet cloth on your face.
I have had a tooth extracted during pregnancy no problem
Like Tia said above try clove oil, or even an actual clove will help. This is the best home remedy for toothache.
Find another dentist work can be done during any trimester with permission from your ob.
Thats weird im 23 weeks and having a tooth extracted next week..
Try pure clove oil from a health food store! I had excruciating pain in my mouth and the dentist couldnt help me. I turned to my mom for help and she suggested clove oil. It numbed my throbbing tooth/gum instantly!
I had your exact same pain! I never got my root canal done and during pregnancy the pain got worse!
I just use to take Tylonal or drink warm things (tea, hot chocolate) cause cold things OMG I literally cried when cold touched it.
I even brushed my teeth with warm/hot water.
I hope you get to feeling better though, I so understand how you feel.
