Where I'm from we don't use measurements, we simply add enough rice to feed, let's say 2 people once the water is boiling salt and some oil and check the rice ever so often, once it reaches the consistency you want, we strain the water out of the rice, put the rice back in the pot and add a touch of butter

The big key it not to stir! Stirring the rice breaks down the gluten and that's how it ends up all sticky and mushy.

I buy normal store brand long grain rice. I toast it in a little bit of butter with salt and I add hot water. It should always be 1 part rice to 2 parts water. Then cover and simmer 20 mins

The ratio depends on the type of rice. Plain white long grain is 1 cup rice to 2 cups water. Basmati rice is 1 cup rice to 1 and 1/2 cup water. Jasmine rice is 1 cup rice to 1 and 1/4 cup water. Hope that helps.

Basmati white rice - boil 1 and 1/2 cup water. Turn to low/1. Add 1 cup rice. Cover and let cook for 18 to 20 minutes. Remove from stove eye and let cool 5 minutes open and fluff with fork. If you like flavour, you can brown a small onion with a little oil, cinnamon stick, 5 cloves, and 1 bay leaf in the pan before adding the water.

I use regular white or brown rice. Short or long grain. Comes out perfect every time. The measurement is one to two (so 1 cup rice to 2 cups water) don't rinse the rice. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low, cover and simmer 15 minutes.
It does take a little practice though, so use the kitchen timer and keep an eye on it the first few times you cook it. Oh, and don't stir during cook time.

I use a cup of rice, and one cup of water. With a little bit of salt and a little bit of oil. Make sure the water is boiling first then add the rice, once the rice is in there don't move it to much, and just when it gets almost all dry that's when you want to put a cover.i usually time it to like 10 mins before i open it and move it around.  Hope that helps. Remember you can always add water but not take away. If all else fails buy a rice cooker..lol good luck.

I use jasmine rice and it's so good. It doesn't get mushy at all!  I use 1 cup rice to 1 1/4 water and a little bit of canola oil and salt. Boil for a minute or two, stir and then turn temp down to min and cover. Let it steam until rice is soft. :)
