pregnant and own pet rodents??

Well they are not mine but they bug the livid sh*t out of me , my roomates daughter has them caged up in her room I know to stay away from their feces but what if this little girl holds it then touches our food without us knowing (she's just a kid )and I see their hairs everywhere!!!  I spray disinfectant as much as I can but the spray  can be too much too. I wish to get rid if them but they aren't mine ughh I also researched that wild mice, rats and pet rodents can carry an awful disease LCMV that is rare but still very very dangerous in pregnancy and causes all kinds of problems please help

I have 4 pet rats in my bedroom.  In the beginning I had my husband clean the cage but I got tired of asking him 10 times a day to do it, so now I do it. As long as they are kept clean and you wash your hands there is nothing to worry about. I think you worrying about it so much is worse for you rather than the rodents just being there.

I own a hamster and I do they cage cleaning food and water changing but I use gloves when I do I also hold him a lot but I always wash my hands after holding petting him puttibg him in ball back in cage i also always wash my hands all the way up to the elbow after cleanibg his cage I am the only person in house he likes will come to not bite I also were a mouth cover when cleaning the cage too just maybe talk to roomate about having them wash hands after messing with it etc. So hopefully it can become a routine thing and also about reminding her not to just touch others ask before touching Wash veggies before eating cooking them or prepare food separate just a few ideas . hopefully she is understanding about it. Good luck .

We own 5 rats and breed them so we can feed our pythons. My husband handles all the cage cleaning but I get them out and play with them all the time. Just wash your hands and try asking your room mate if she can have her kid do the same.

Do u share food with your roommate? Maybe you could tak to your roommate and start seperating your food,if your worried about the kid touching rats and and putting her hands in the chips etc.

As long as the food is cooked and fruits and veggies are washed well and you always wash up before you eat you shshould be fine.

When you wash fruit and veggies to eat raw you can use a drop of dish soap on them just rinse well
