what do drs test when we pee every drs visit ?

Just wondering? Do they ever do drug tests? I'm not a drug person or will ever do drugs while pregnant but unfortunately I have a dumb *** cousin who is pregnant and still smoking weed. She is still under or at the 3 month mark. MY family is disappointed & were all trying to figure out what to do.
Although we should mind our own but its super hard. I'm further along than her and it erks me so much!

I don't think they'll take her baby away over weed. She can say it helped her eat and calmed her nausea or vomitting. Now idk about weed but there's a lot of controversial pharmaceutical drugs that are just as bad for pregnant women/the fetus that are prescribed or okayed to take because the problem outweighs the risk.
I would just talk to her about the potential harm and unnecessary problems she can give the baby and cause herself to have to deal with by raising a child with health problems. Otherwise if she don't care about the bed she's making then let her lay in it when she's done.

Lol...you are going to ruin a bunch of peoples lives over pot? I sure hope she is doing more than that for you to feel so obligated to rip a child/children from their parents. Also you and your MIL doing your little search is illegal. Just because people don't raise a child or live their life exactly like you or how you see fit does not give you the right to do this. So unless there are some actual child endangerment issues you should back off and focus on yourself amd your baby.

She'll have to sign a consent for the obgyn to drug test her and most places will ask you to sign that consent. But when she has the baby they will automatically test her and if it's in her system then the u will test the baby as well. If it's in the baby's system then CPS will be called and she will have a 30 day evaluation to see if she is an unfit parent bc weed isn't considered that much of an issue so they'll look at every other aspect too. Thays how it works in NC at least.

And also, if the OBGYN or hospital she's attending SUSPECTS drug use they can order a random drug test. But it is illegal to not inform a patient of this testing and their suspicions. So those of you who think they randomly test a mothers urine for drugs without any knowledge given to a person its being done, they do not. If you refuse a test, they can only order one be done the moment a child is born.

I used to work for an obgyn, and no they do not test for drugs when they collect urine its for a urinalysis (checks the urine for protein, sugar, bacteria, etc). However, when a baby is born they WILL drug test. Forwarn your cousin whats more important: having her buzz from marijuana or possibly having harm caused to her baby or having DCFS investigate her as a suitable mother? I was a former smoker, and had to stop because as a mother WE NEED TO PRIORITIZE OUR BABIES OVER OURSELVES. And furthermore, THC the drug found in marijuana stores in fat cells and can take up to a MONTH ON A HEALTHY WEIGHT PERSON TO LEAVE THE BODY.WITH THE ADDITIONAL FAT STORAGE BEING PREGNANT IT TAKES LONGER!!!ultimately there's only so much you can do to pursuade a person to stop. But if you want to be a hard a** warn her if she doesn't stop you and your family will call DCFS to have her tested and investigated the minute the child is born (they will typically never do drug testing on a fetus for risk of harm). Hope this helps!!

Oh Jesus, if she's only smoking weed, there haven't been any adverse affects shown on a fetus. It's no worse than smoking cigarettes with the nicotine and drs allow that all the time during pregnancy. If there was a harder drug involved, yes notify whoever you need to. But a woman doesnt deserve to that kind of harassment and threat to take her child away. In fact, the stress can cause raised cortisol levels which have for sure been shown to harm a fetus. Stop being so judgmental andif you really were concerned, have the family do an intervention and explain. but to underhandedly go report her is such a violation

Last time they tested me they said they look for cells and they test for Urinary Tract Infections.  I had one last time and had to be medicated.  Thank goodness for urine tests!

I'm in southern California and along with all the basic stuff they test for in your urine they test for drugs as well and if you continue to test dirty they will involve cps when the baby is born

That's sad because both parents smoke.
But the aunt would want the baby but worried the mom of the pregnant girl will take custody since there's an older child involved of age 5 . sad sad indeed.
First going to call drs office and give an annonymous tip

They defiantly test for drugs when you get your labs done..it says it on the script. Also if she has to go to hospital for any emergency they will. Child services will be notified and can intervine. I know someone that smoked weed there entire pregnancy and had child services involved for first 3month and both parents had to be clean and had to be supervised at all times until the process ended. :(

Drugs would show up also. And if the mother is using while pregnant, child services will be notified. The baby could be taken away at delivery also.

A lot of states are starting to do drug tests at every OB appointment. And if there is a positive test they will usually test the baby at birth as well and with any positive the baby may be taken.

Police can't really do much though?
I was thinking of getting her info
Because she doesn't say who is her Dr.. I have a mother in law who checks insurances and medicaid so I was hoping maybe she can see Her Dr & that way we can call the drs office and tell them.. But to keep it anonymous. HOPEFUlly if it works......

But I know in a similar situation a cousin got pregnant who would smoke as well but she was scared and honest and admitted she would smoke so they would drug test her. I guess if its with reason or doubt they test?

But as for now I mean we don't know what to do but as soon as that baby is born of course the family would want the baby

Thank you everyone for quick response

They test for glucose and protein in the urine. I'm pretty sure doing drugs while pregnant is child endangerment. If you are really worried I would just call the police.
