Confused about how my own body works!

Is it possible to get pregnant while on your period?  If I had unprotected sex and began my period the same day, can I be pregnant?  My period was on time and regular, but I have had a number of pregnancy symptoms since then, such as extreme fatigue, tender breasts, slight cramping, headaches, lightheadedness, and now some light spotting.  I'm getting mixed information on this...if you ovulate in mid-cycle, and the egg only lives 24 hours, how is it possible to get pregnant late in the cycle.  And if you ovulate late in the cycle, what happens to the egg during menstruation?  Does it get fertilized during menstruation and hang around until the lining builds again so that it can implant?

Although most women ovulate about 14 days before their period, ovulation can be irregular and can happen at different times.  You can ovulate 1 day after finishing your period, etc.  To have a healthy pregnancy, its not so important when you ovulate, but that you have a good amount of time between ovulation and next period due date (luteal phase).  It needs time to implant, etc.  So although its unlikely you ovulated during your actual period, its possible you did right after, and sperm can live quite some time in your body.  If this is what you are hoping for, I sure hope you conceived.  Please keep us posted, and good luck to you!!

The only info I can offer is I did get pg with one of my children on the first day of my period.  The only reason I know that was the day is because at the time hubby and I were going through some tough times and in a three month period that was the only time we had sex.  So that was the only time I could have gotton PG.  So, anything is possible.
