Placenta Covering Cervix

My 24 week ultrasound indicated the placenta covered my cervix. Anyone ever have this?  I have read that many times the problem corrects itself but thought I would check for people who have had something similar happen. I see my OB on Monday.  Thanks for any insight!

That's great that you get to rest through the summer. Since it's still early on in your pregnancy there is always a chance that as the baby grows the placenta will begin to move away from your cervix. Otherwise they will most likely schedule a C-sec. I dont know if you have experienced this yet or not but when I was pregnant and had this I had contractions and also bleeding regularly through the pregnancy. The bleeding is mainly associated with the pressure the baby puts on the placenta as it sits on the cervix. As the baby gets bigger there is more pressure being put on it so you bleed a bit more as the pregnancy progresses. That's why they scheduled my surgery for two weeks before my due date, to avoid the baby being too big. Like I said, she was actually born a month earlier, thank God for that, because she weight in 6lbs 7.5oz at birth which means if I would have carried her to term she would have been at least 9lbs. So it all worked out for the best after all. As far as questions that's kind of hard to tell because every pregnancy & symptoms are so different and I am certain you have many concerns at this point. I think that as the doctor gives you all the details of what to expect you will think of many things to ask. Just don't let all the information you get about it, be it through personal research or doctors appts, get you down and stressed. Like I said, the best thing you can do for yourself and the baby is rest and relax. IT'S GOING TO BE OK. :) I'll be thinking of you and keep you in my prayers.

I also had this with my son, placenta previa.  They kept checking to see if it moved over but it didn't, so they had to schedule a C section 2 weeks prior to my due date.  The main thing was to not go into labor on my own because I could bleed very badly.

I had no trouble with the pregnancy, but my water broke a week before my C section was due.  It was... sorta bloody, but not really bad.  I was rushed to the hospital and had an emergency C section, and it was actually no big deal.  Everyone was freaking out rushing around, but I ended up not bleeding too much, and the C section was fast and easy!

Your OB will probably give you all the information you need about placenta previa, and they'll keep checking you to see if it moves or not.  If not, prepare for a C section! :)

Thanks for the insight and advice.  The U/S Tech said the placenta was 'squeezing' my cervix and my little one was using it as a pillow.  She didn't say anything else about it, but when I started reading about placenta previa I started to worry.  I am in the field of education and have the summer off, just a few more weeks of work - and looking forward to the rest of staying home.  I am anxious to talk about all this with my doctor also.  Any specific questions I should ask?  Thanks again!

PS

I did deliver earlier. I had been scheduled for a C-Sec two weeks before my due date, reason being my first baby was 8lbs 11oz and they did not want me to have a large baby to avoid more complications. However, at 8 months my daughter was already large enough her weight caused placenta abruptia and I ended up going into labor a month earlier. Right on my birthday, almost to the exact time I was born my daughter came into the world...

It's called placenta previa, and I had it with my second child. I too heard it can correct itself as the pregnancy progreses. In my case once it made it to the cervix it never moved out of there. Had lots of bleeding was orderd bed rest for the remaining of the pregnancy and at the time I was only 5.5 months pregnant. I wont scare you with the details of my experience but I will tell you You Need To Rest And Take Care Of Yourself. Quit your job, hire a maid, whatever it takes, you need to rest as much as possible. I dont care what any doctor says. However I will also tell you that after a very challenging pregnancy and delivery For Me! (that's not to say you'll go through the same, everybody is different) I had a very healthy baby... God Bless You

Yes, the same thing happened to me at 21 weeks. My OB said not to stress because it usually corrects itself. I'm scheduled to have a repeat ultrasound in 2 weeks (28 weeks). I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
