i agree with trying43
my doctor recommended Unisom..It is safe for you and the baby at all stages of your pregnancy..i have confirmed this with 2 different ob/gyn docs..
i get absolutely no sleep.. people say to stay away from caffeine which i never use and i still get no sleep...
since trying the Unisom it has helped..In the beginning i used it for 2 weeks straight then i weined myself off little by little until now i sleep through the night untill its pee pee time..lol
It's a C shaped body pillow. I tried a different body pillow first because everyone told me it would help me sleep, but it only made it worse. So I decided to give it a try. I bought mine at Baby's 1st but Babies r Us carries it online as well.
Ohhhh, and it's called the Snoogle total body pillow. Apparently I can't spell :-)
What is a snoodle? I googled it, but got some weird male phallus answer.
I had trouble sleeping my first trimester and into my second. Then I bought a snoodle and sleep like a baby. I seriously can't imagine how one pillow can make a difference, but I haven't missed a minute of sleep since using the pillow. I also don't eat anything after about 7 pm and only drink water. I also take Metoprolol for BP so that was resolved early on.
I'm now 21 weeks pregnant, BP stays at 120/70, and I sleep perfectly. Hope the same happens for you soon!
I'm sooo tired... Thought I had got this fixed... Stayed up all day yesterday - no naps during he day - went to sleep and slept a good 6 hours!!!! It was wonderful!!! Got up this morning and had a really active day - again no naps.... Here it is after 2am and I can't fall asleep and I am physically and mentally tired... I have a headache and my stomach is sore...
I have my doctors appointment today and need to sleep, but it looks like I may not be able to....
Wish I had someone to talk to!!!!
Somewhere around 2 am is also my bewitching hour. I can go to bed at 12 and will be up at 2. sometimes potty, snack & something to drink will let me go back to sleep but since last Friday... it doesn't seem that anything helps. running on only 4 hours from last night and when i fall asleep I toss & turn... hopefully being this tired without a nap today and walking about 30 minutes will have me sooo tired I fall and can at get 6 hours...
won't know until Thursday if this is pregnancy related... it will be worth it if it is.!!!
hi,
I also have insomnia with pregnancy. Can't for the life of me get to sleep again when I wake up about 2 am. And it's not that I'm not tired.
The one thing i've found that helps is to have a small snack. After eating then i'm usually able to sleep again.
I had blood pressure since I was about 32 (runs in the family) I started using Aldomet about three years once I started trying to concieve. It works great for me. My concern is how my blood pressure react to my pregnancy. My first prenatal appointment isn't until 10/11 but i'm wondering if I should see my PCP to have my blood pressure checked?
Yikes! Glad your numbers have come down from that first reading!
I'm not a dr but I also suspect your bp was elevated before you were pregnant. Pregnancy-induced hypertension occurs in the second or third trimester but not in the first (bp usually drops during the first trimester and raises during the second and third trimester). Drinking caffeine before you found out that you were pregnant will not effect your baby because baby sustains his/herself right now (placenta will not form until late in the first trimester).
Since you have an appointment tomorrow that would be a good time to mention the insomia. Let us now how how things go.
Hi my readings at one point were 150/125, but now I am on medication and laying around its around 133/83. I cut out coffee, and stopped smoking. I stopped smoking when I found out I was pregnant and only stopped coffee when I found out it can stop the absorption of some vitamins. So I hope there has been no damage done, the doc put me on Aldomet., I go back and see the doc tomorrow. I never had early HBP in any of my pregnancy, however I can't stop thinking that I may have had the HBP before I was pregnant, it had been awhile since I have had it tested.
I am also very early in my PG at 4w 5d. I hope it does change because I hate not being able to sleep. :-)
Hi I am a member of the no sleep club too!! Lol My Re and OB said I can take 1/2 of a regular unisom not the rapid release or melts kind, for insomnia occasionally. Sorry your not sleeping! Good luck to you.
You are very early on into the pregnancy so this may not even be pregnancy related. As your pregnancy progresses you may find that the opposite applies and you have trouble staying awake.
Be sure to cut out all caffeinated items from your diet.
What type of bp reading have you been getting? If you are pre- or hypertensive that is something that needs to be well controlled during pregnancy.
May I ask how far along everyone is in their pregnancies.
OMG!!!!!! I thought is was just me. I am completely exhausted yet I still can't sleep at night. I walked alot today and did not take a nap so hopefully I will go to sleep tonight. I am also currently unemployed and have the benefit of sleeping during the day to recoup but I would love to sleep at night with my husband instead of watching television until i collapse. :-(
I had fairly bad insomnia throughout my pregnancy. I think it was a combination of many things...hormones (whacky things aren't they), worry, and towards the end, just not being able to get comfortable.
I used a variety of things. A long warm bath at night really helped a great deal combined with a good solid hour or so of "all about me time" prior to bed. For me that meant a good book. Try to avoid eating too close to bed time as well. Warmed milk was good as well. I also used to lay in bed and just do deep breathing...it really calmed me down.
You will find most herbal teas are not recommended during pregnancy, however if you look around on line, you can find a list that are ok'ed. And, as Raven said, definately talk to your Dr. prior to taking any of them.
I actually agree somewhat with both posters above. It truly depends on your comfort level. For some, a more natural approach is what they are most comfortable with. For others, a prescription for something is better. There is nothing wrong with taking something prescribed by your Dr. (I always used to talk to the pharmacist as well...they are great at providing additional info). It truly does depend on your approach, your lifestyle and your belief system.
Good luck to you..insomnia is awful and I hope you are able to conquer it quickly!!
I very much disagree with beanie485... No sleeping pills especially!!! Ambien... Which can cause many issues in a non-pregnant person... Like blackouts - where people do things while still asleep... Instead I would recommend herbal teas or other natural teas AFTER checking with your doctor!!!
I am also suffering from insomnia ... The walking or mild exercise I suggested in your other question has helped and the use of teas ... In this I am kinda lucky because I am unemployed and then end up sleeping a good portion of the day... Which sometimes helps with my upset stomach.. But it can be very frustrating and I have found the more frustrated I get the harder it is to fall asleep...
Good luck with it!!!
it is common in pregnancy to have trouble sleeping even though you may not have had it on other pregnancies remember that each one is different
If the insomnia is severe your doctor can safely prescribe Ambien
