how long does miscarriage pain last?

Does anyone know how long the pain lasts from mc?

I am 8wks pg with twins, or was, as of last thurs, it appears that I may be mc one of them.  On US, one sac looked good and had a really good hb, the other one very faint hb and smaller.  My doc thinks that I will lose the weak one and my body will reabsorb it.

As of thurs evening, started cramping some, and cramping continues today.  At times the cramping gets severe, especially if i get up and try to walk around.  I'm not spoting or bleeding.  I did call the doc, and they said that it may be mc of the weak sac, but it could just be normal pg cramping.  I've taken tylenol, but that doesn't do much good.  It's not severe enough to go to the ER.

Does anyone have any experience with this?  Any advice or opinion is appreciated.

Thanks

I too am sorry about the frustration at the hospital.  There are a couple of things I can think of that may be going on.  First off, I also have had a positive home pregnancy test and a negative Dr.'s urine test.  It turned out I was indeed pregnant.  Many Dr.;s use urine tests that are not as sensitive (100 HCG level) as the home ones.  I believe the Clearblue Digital picks it up at 25.  So it could be that you are very early in your pregnancy and your HCG level is not high enough for less sensitive tests. It could also be you had what is called a chemical pregnancy.  That is where the egg is fertilized, but does not properly attach.  You wind up with what is essentially a very heavy period, often later then normal.  Many women having these never even know they are pregnant. If you are in fact pregnant (and those digital HPT's are pretty reliable), the heavy bleeding does not necessarily mean a loss.  Unfortunately this early a scan may not tell you much.  If it were me, I would see my Dr. and request bloodwork.  That will give you the best answer.  If it comes back positive, the Dr. should do another bloodtest about 2 days after the first, and that will tell you if your HCG levels are rising, which they should in a healthy pregnancy.  I have been where you are right now and I know how stressful a time this is.  I hope all works out well, and I hope you let us know how things go.  Take care, and I wish you all the best.

sorry about the frustration at the hospital. how far along are you meant to be? even in the middle of miscarriage, i think your HCG will still read on a blood test. the clots might be something to call your doctor about.

on monday i found out i was pregnant, me and my husband was over the moon as we'd been trying for ages, this will be our second now. but yesterday i woke up bleeding and had quite bad stomach pains. so i went down to A & E and told them wot had happened to try and get a scan, but they took two hospital pregnancy tests which came back nagative, i was beside myself, they refused to treated me saying i wast pregnant. so they sent me home! i was not happy and again took a realiable clear blue digital pregnancy test and again, it said postive! i know im pregnant i feel different, but after i took that test i have had clots in my blood, only small thou, but im not too sure if im miscarrying. i am still bleeding today but have no pain at all. could it just have been a period, being early in pregnancy or have i miscarried? i have a scan booked monday but its killing me waiting to find out if ive lost my baby or not. does anyone know?

Hi Spec

I dont know if mines is the same as you I found out I was pregnant on the 22 June was quite a shock, I then took not well with what the doc thought was an infection which was really sore with sharp pains shooting down my pelvis and into my groin, I then started to bleed but only when a wiped myself which would come and go, I then went for an early scan which they couldnt see any sign of a pregnancy, I then had to get an internal one done again no sign.  I then got seen by a consultant who said it was 3 things I was either very early, or an early pregnancy or an etopic, he said it must have came away from me well my heart sank when he said that a couldnt get my head around things.  The only way they coold check for a miscarrage was to get blood done last wednesday it came back at 600, then on friday it was 4.9 and yesterday it only went down to 3.9 (with as miscarrage it should plumet ) which is not much the midwife asked me am a sure a dont have any pains and a said no only we niggles on and of like period pain but nothing major, they are baffled and so am, it has now made me think is there still something there and it was too early to see on the ultrasound when a went last week my head is all over the place, I know its not the same as you lot, but any advice would be grately appreciated folks.

Thanks everyone for the support and the input.  I sure do hope that it's just the muscles and ligaments stretching in my uterus.  I had a really tough day Thursday, I saw immediately that the heartbeat was barely moving, and then when she couldn't pick it up on the doppler to hear it, that just about killed me.  Especially when we had just heard both hb's a week ago. I cried all day that day.  I do hope and pray that everything is ok.  I appreciate all the kind thoughts and prayers.  I go back to the doc on Tues and I hope I have good news to share!!
Good luck to all of you as well!

Both times - I have had weird cramping pains in my lower tummy - around my pelvic bone - the pains are worse if I sneeze or cough - sometimes just the way I lay in bed.  From what I have read and what others have said, sometimes its just your muscles stretching and adjusting to carrying a new weight.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed that is all it is and that you have two healthy little ones growing in there.  I do know that with twins there is always a big one and a small one.  Let us know what is going on and know we are sending our best thoughts your way!
