A good carrier carseat, they all have to pass the same crash testing however some are much easier to use correctly then others (my favorite is the chicco keyfit 30)...I agree with the first poster the Nosefreda is awesome use it with baby saline solution to help loosen things up even better...I sucked at swaddling with a standard blaket so I loved the swaddle me velcro wraps and halo sleep sacks...if you are nursing and will be pumping a double electric pump will save a lot of time...if you plan on using expensive bottles and only plan on buying 6 or so you will probably have to hand wash so stock up on bottle brushes (you want to dispose of them ever few weeks to avoid bacteria/mildew growth or bleach regularly, however they do falling apart fairly regularly)...if you're worried about taking nail clippers to itty bitty newborn hands buy some baby nail files, their nails are paper thin so it's real easy just to file them

I know how you feel, I'm finding this completely overwhelming. I came into this knowing ZERO about baby stuff. Now I feel completely stressed about creating a registry because there's like 50+ options for everything and researching it all takes SO much time. Sometimes I wish it was 1950 when there were probably 2-3 options for everything so decisions were much simpler.

If you register at Babies are US or at Buy Buy Baby they will give you lists.

Remember that you don't need everything at one time....the cost to buy all is steep!

When you register you can req. different size clothes etc. Babies grow out of 0-3 month very quick! Too Quick!

Yesturday I was told that babies will like some bottles and regent others....buy maybe two types verse buying big pack if single type.

Yes, a lot of onesees and buy lots of diapers! This is my second and I'm going to use eco friendly disposables and cloth (flip hybrids amd rumparooz to be exact). I'm starting off using newborn disposables for the initial phase to get over the not sleeping etc. Get a forehead thermometer ($40 + but so worth it) and a fancy nasal aspirator (not the bulb one which is worthless on tiny screaming baby nostrils). Nail clippers (clip nails when baby is sleeping and never after a bath). I'm going to try out a Zipadee Zip (new baby onesee featured on the shark tank show) because my first child was a horrible sleeper! It has good reviews and I love my sleep so I'm hopeful it will help our new little one sleep longer when he or she arrives! A swing with music is helpful. Breastfeeding pillow. ELECTRIC breast pump if you're breast feeding and going back to work. The manual pump is too much work. A large infinity scarf works beautifully as a breast feeding cover and is lightweight! Buy a few extra BPA free bottles with nipples that are ergonomically correct. I used my Snugli with my first born a lot so I recommend one of those for short to medium outings or the Ergo brand is good too. Do research on the internet for products that would suit you best. I'm a simple, minimalist type of person so I might be different from you. :) Get only a few of the necessary developmental toys and  the cutest "outfits". Babies prefer human interaction in the beginning and they grow out of everything so fast that it's a sad waste of money not to mention space.

Nosefrida
LOTS of onesies
Extra nail clippers and files

If your nursing a nice cover.. .

You really don't need much initially.
