1 cm and 70% effaced

Hi all.  I am 38 weeks today.  I am due May 16th.  I went to the doctor yesterday and I am 1 cm dilated and 70% effaced.  What does the 70% effaced mean?  I know it is the thinning of my cervix, but shouldn't it be more in line with my dilation?  I really really don't want this baby until after next week.  Too long of a story, but basically my DH's real dad will be staying at our house next week and I want to avoid him and DH's mother running into each other-which they will if the baby is born.  He will be gone by next Thursday, so then all is fine.  My doctor said that I could stay this way for another few weeks-but once you get to 100% effacement, don't things start to move quickly?  I have never really paid attention to that and now I am obsessed with it.  What do you all think?

hehehe.. you girls know what it is like.. when they say bedrest do they actually think we women are going to be able to stay in bed??? As long as we don't do anything to strenuous then why must we stay *in bed*? I know you all couldn't do it either.. *sticking my tongue out at ya...hehehe* I am being careful... but now I am ready for him to get here!!

I had been dilated to 2 cm and 80% effaced from April 18th til last Friday when I went to the doctor. They told me then that I have moved to 100% effaced and still 2 cm dilated. I have been on bedrest because of high BP but haven't really *stayed in bed* and nothing has happened so far. You are okay I think for a little while yet. Just make sure you rest more then you are up and active to hold things over a little while longer!!

I was 50% effaced at 29wks and 90% effaced and a finger tip dilated at 31wks. Since it was so early they put me on bed rest. I got off of bed rest at 35 wks. At 36wk I was 90% effaced and 1 cm dilated. My water broke at 36wk5d. I was still 1 cm dilated.

It all depends!  Is this your 1st baby?  Hell even with baby #3 you can walk around this way for weeks or you could go anytime.  The best way to try to hold off labor is by staying off your feet and by not putting pressure on your cervix!  I'm only 33wks and dialated 1cm and I'm 60% effaced, you have 5wks on me and we're sitting neck & neck!  I did a FFN test to determine if I'm likely to give birth within the next two weeks and it came back negative, and this is my 3rd baby.

At the end of the day it's really up to the little one whether or not he/she is ready to blow that popsicle stand! LOL
