I am 39 and pregnant also, and have had 2 previous miscarriages in 2010 and 2011. I have a 12 yr old healthy daughter, and now my husband and I have been TTC since we got married in 2009. I got pregnant in 2010 and carried to 15wk when I miscarried. My water had broke when I was 15wks....but I used to be constipated all the time and my nurse told me that I cud have some Milk of Magnesia. So I took it, and I think that all that straining and pushing made my water break; therefore my baby didn't make it since I was only 15 wks. My baby still had a heartbeat and everything. The doc told me that there was nothing that they cud do about it, because once my water broke and I lost all my fluids...that cud cause me or my baby 2 get infections or anything; therefore, they had 2 induce me and I had my baby( the baby was so small that I cud hold him/her in the palm of my hand). We had a small buriel service and everything. Then I got pregnant 8 months later. Being that I was over 35 yrs old, I wanted to do the more extensive u/s that tests for down syndrome, trisomy 13, and trisomy 18. MY OB sent me to a Maternal Fetal Specialists, because the u/s equipment that they had at their office was not as detailed as the one that Maternal Fetal Specilist had. So I had to do an u/s at 12wks and 16 wks. When they did the u/s @ 12wks, the doc look ay my sonogram and told us that something didn't look quite right, but that they wud know more the furthur along I became. WHen I went back for the 16wk u/s, they saw where my baby's limbs (arms & legs) were not growing properly. The bottom part of my baby's limbs were shorter than they shud have been which they called it skeletal dysplasia. I had never heard of this before, and we asked them how is this possible. The genetic counselor told us that when the egg and sperm met during fertilization, that one of the genes that u need for bone grownth did not fuse together. Of course we were devatsed, because I kept trying to figure out if it was something that I did wrong. They did tell us that the chances of this happening again if I became preg was a 1 out of 10, they said it was something that happened sparatically. The doc asked me if I had taken anything, but the only thing that I had taken was tylenol, so now I won't even take anything now. The doc tried to get me 2 to abort but, we couldn't make that type of decision. They told us that my baby probably would not survive even after I had him, because they said that in cases like this that most babies don't make it. The further I got in my pregnancy, they told us that my baby they saw something wrong with my baby's heart and referred us to a pediatric cardiologist. My amniotic fluids were low thru out my pregnancy and I had to drink plenty of water and pediasure to try to increase my fluids. When I was 33 wks along, I had a doctors appts and was told that my fluids had build back up (which was good 2 hear..after hearing something negative every other time I went to an appt); however, my water broke the same night @ 33wks and I had to have a c-section. Well, my baby did not survive because his lungs were not completely developed along with the other health issues mentioned above. We were completely devasted after going thru loosing another baby. We had a buriel service as well. I cud not find myself aborting my baby, even through there were health issues that they doc thought may have been too much for us to handle. We felt that we gave our all and all and tried to give our baby a fighting chance, so now I can say that I know that we did the right thing by not aborting. I prayed to God for guidance and I feel that was his way of handling the situation the way he wanted it 2 b. 9 months later, I am 4wks and 3day prego...and I can say that I have totally given it 2 God and I know that all will be well this time for us. I am also taking progestorone this time for my pregnancy. Just continue to pray and ask God for patience, guidance, and joy throughout ur preganncy and everything will be fine. I am here if u need to talk, because I realy do understand what u are going thru. U can send me a message if u would like to talk. Praying for U!!! Keep n touch!!
I just want to add that I am 38 years old and almost 7 weeks now. The thought of such a loss devistates me. I admire you both and pray that we all have healthy babies. Thankyou for telling your stories.
