40 years old and possibly pregnant w/18 year old tubaligation

18 years ago I had my tubes tied after giving birth to my now 18 year old son.  June 6 of this year I had a normal period.  On July 2 when my period arrived there was only light spotting when I would wipe and a brownish discharge.  This lasted for two days.  My breasts are tender as if I am going to have a period and I have been sleeping a lot.  This is not normal for me because I do not take naps.  If I didn't have to go to work I would sleep in until 10 o'clock. I took a HPT on the weekend of the spotting and it came back negative.  I figured it's because it was too early.  I since have scheduled an appointment with my OB/Gyn and I am happy and I am worried.  Has anyone else experienced this?

I only had my tubes tied.  I would not let them cut and cauterize them.

I will definitely keep everyone updated.  My main concern is that I could possibly have a tubal pregnancy not saying that I do but concerned.  My doctor's appointment is scheduled for July 24th and the nurse has instructed me not to take anymore tests as it can be confusing.  I haven't taken anymore HPT since the weekend of the spotting.  I will wait for the doctor.

What I also didn't mention is that I had two boys who are now young men the eldest is 21 and my baby 18 and both are in college.  One out of state and the other instate.

Thank you all for your comments.

Pregancy is a distincit possibility if your tubes were "looped" instead of cut, tied and burned.  A loop is just that.  They place a loop over your tubes, thereby crimping the tube, so you do not get pregnant.  I have heard of the loop coming off and the fallopian tube being open again to receive the egg and sperm.

If you have had your tubes, tied cut and/or burned, the chances of a pregnancy after 18 years are extremely slim.  Forty years old is a bit young for menopause, so you are doing the right thing, by going to your doctor.

If you that one in a million that do get pregnant after a tubal, you have to name the baby with the word "Miracle" in there some where.  Perhaps the name Miracle in another language, so it fits the baby better....

Keep everyone updated, will you?

if you are 47 and had a tubal ligation, chances are you entering menopause.  there is no reason an hpt would not work after a tubal.  if there is hcg in your system, a test can pick it up, and a tubal does not interfere with the production of hcg.  i wish the very best at finding out what is going on, and a healthy pregnancy, if that is indeed what is causing your missing periods!

I haven't experienced this phenomenon but I wanted to advise you to see a dr if you do get a positive on your hpt ASAP.  There's a possibility of ectopic pregnancy w/tubals due to scarring of the fallopinan tubes.  After reading your post, however, I don't think you're pregnant but it's happened before.  Good luck!
