44 and High FSH

by JSSK, May 20, 2008 12:23AM
I turned 44 in March and have an FSH of 18. The doctors I went to refused to do IVF because of age/FSH.
Does anyone know any Doctors that would work with me
Thanks

FSH bounes around from month to month.
I had a 10.2 one month and then it went to 7.2 another month.
I have been getting testing done at The Columbia Womens Fertility Care in NYC and they seem pretty willing to talk IVF as long as your under 45 years old.
You can look on line at their website.

I tried IVF at 43 w/my own eggs and while I'm not sure of my FSH number, I remember them saying it was on the high side.  I live in NM & my clinic was in Lubbock, TX.

I am 40 and mine was 14.9 only one time but I have had a hard time getting pregnant or producing any eggs.  It can happen but it will be hard.  We are thinking of going to a donor egg.  I have been told my my RE that at my age 70-80% of my eggs all have chromosomal problems.  Yes - there are good ones still in there but they are hard to stimulate from the high fsh.  It only takes one - but we have had a hard time finding that one.  Don't give up but try to educate yourself on the stats.  I am starting to get a little worried about the chromosomal problems.  Maybe my failure has been a blessing.  How heartbreaking it can be.  I have had some friends who have lost some babies from problems and it was devestating to them.

Many RE's will not let you use a donor egg after 50.  Check that out so that if you do try with your own, you don't run out of time for plan b.

I am not trying to discourage you.  You have to try if you want to.  I did and still am.  Your age and FSH will make it a challenge.   My RE told me that I only had a 20% chance of success with my own eggs - when I was still 39.  I secretly thought that I would show him - I am wearing out after 15 months of aggressivly trying with the doc.  If you do find someone who will help you try acupunture also.
